A little about myself...
This is my ninth year teaching third grade at Hillcrest Elementary School in Burlington, North Carolina. I am excited for my new third graders to arrive and our school year to begin!

Last summer, I graduated with my Master's Degree of Elementary Education from
Elon University. Through this experience, I have grown as a teacher and look to incorporate many inovative teaching ideas into my classroom.

Orginially, I am from
Elmira, New York where my parents still reside. I have one sister who lives Arkansas as the head coach of the softball and cross country team at the University of the Ozarks.

I went the
State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo.  I recieved my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education with a minor in Mathematics.

There, I played lacrosse for four years which was a new and exciting sport for me. Now, I enjoy playing and/or helping coach softball!

In 2002, I won the Alamance-Burlington Teacher of the Year Award. This was an amazing and shocking moment. I am still in awe that my colleagues thought of me so highly! :-)

This year I am nominated for a
national math award. I am one of three finalists for North Carolina. See link in the upper left.

My Educational Beliefs:
I believe all learners are entitled the opportunity to attain their highest learning level. To reach this goal, students must be dealt with as individuals.

All students have different learning styles and cultures that make them unique. I foster these differences by creating hands-on, cooperative group, and/or multi-sensory lessons that promote student involvement, critical and creative thinking, and activity.

I use creative measures for evaluation, such as rubrics, oral reports, and written samples to reach the individuality of my students. As part of developing my classroom environment, I implement consistent, fair, and high expectations for all students.

A classroom needs to provide a safe, caring, learning environment where students can take chances to challenge themselves, each other, and me as their teacher.

My core beliefs I have held close since becoming a teacher and while idealistic, they have evolved and challenged me to go to school with the hope of making a difference in the life of at least one child. Every day, I look forward to the unpredictability teaching brings into my life.

My lessons are designed to integrate various cultures, home backgrounds, individual learning styles and thinking skills needs for students to be successful.

Every day brings a new challenge. I adapt and change through self-evaluation and observation of my students to find the method that will be best.
