I'm always looking for photos, stories, and patches to share on the website. E-mail me, Jim Webb, at [email protected]. High quality is best. If you're not sure how, I can help.
RIGHT: 903rd Air Refueling Squadron crewmembers standing next to their early short-tailed KC-135Q at Beale AFB, California. They belonged to the 4126th Strategic Wing. Photo taken in 1960.

LEFT: 92nd Air Refueling Squadron short-tailed KC-135A 56-3640 at Hickam AFB, Hawaii in 1959. They dragged a B-52C across the Pacific Ocean to here. The 92nd AREFS marked their early KCs with a black band across the tail and the boom ruddervators with JJ plus a number. This one has JJ-16. I have seen JJ-11, JJ-15, JJ-16, JJ-23, JJ-24, JJ-31.
Notice the early KC-135As didn't have the tail-mounted flood lights to light up the refueling area.
