MY TECH PROFILE

 

 

 

INTRODUCTION

 

 

          Please welcome to my profile page. Thanks for your interest. Let me tell you at the beginning that this was a laborious work.  I have kept the projects and descriptions to the minimum so that the educated eyes can extract exactly what is required.

 

Generally speaking I have done a wide range of technical work ranging from Installing and configuring VPNs to Complex software codes for validations for US Vehicle Registrations.  I am a Process oriented and methodological person, who love challenges.  Inclination is more towards technical management and process streamlining.

 

I feel, the good part of my profile is that I have dirtied my hands before managing these processes now.  So its more of a managing worker ! I firmly believe that �knowledge is power� and I must know a step better than the team I lead.

 

          Profile below is divided into the following sections for your easy reference :-

   

SOFTWARE PROJECTS

 

          I have passed through various profiles in Software Development and have listed here only few interesting ones.  Technologies used were mostly VB/MS SQL, PHP/MySQL and .NET.  Few years back, I have also worked on Oracle 7.1 on SCO Unix with Forms 3.0/Reports 1.1 etc. 

Essentially I am a hard-core techie, who does not give up easily.  The projects below aren�t in any particular sequence.  Have a nice read��� 

 

     

  • Project :     American Family Website

    • Description: This project was to modify an existing website to allow clients to search and post memorials for the departed.  The average search time was 1:40 Minutes with 72 Million records in Database.  The customer also wanted web based administration of the Database with very large conditional uploads and verifications.  The site also provided payment gateway for online payment.

    • Team Size: 6

    • Technology Used: ASP, MS SQL 2000, DLL, Payment Gateways

    • Major Achievements: We inherited an existing DB with 72 million records in MS SQL 2000.  We reorganized the Indexes and the Maintenance plan of this large DB and reduced average search timings to 0:22 Sec.  Apart from their website maintenance, the client delightedly contracted us their DB administration task to us.  We also bagged the Bonus Amount for completing the revamped website within the defined time frame.

  • Project :     AutoSoftware Distribution Package

    • Description: Objective of this Project was to develop a Package consisting of Client, Webservice and Admin utility to schedule and manage unattended distribution of propriety licenses to client PCs.  The client had various packaged software which had to be licensed on per seat basis to various departments of US and wanted a utility to automate license management and package distribution.  This was similar to Norton Auto-Update Utility from client side.

    • Technology Used: VB.NET, WebService, MS SQL 2005

    • Major Achievements: We used latest technologies like Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Click-Once Technology, .NET WebService etc to achieve a failsafe component to distribute and manage critical licenses and MSI packages.  Complex VBscript to manage MSI scripts and DLL to enable real-time logging was achieved in this project.

 

  • Project  :    US Oil Rig Project

    • Description: This project was to process various logs from a US based Oil Rig Company.  The logs were delivered to us in scanned image formats.  Our challenge was to convert the image to numbers and provide Excel graphs based on various parameters given by the client.

    • Technology Used : VB6, MS SQL, Abby OCR

    • Major Achievements : The software was made to understand the pattern of the logs and reduce the actual keypunch of the operators to capture the data.  OCR technology was used to dramatically cut down manpower required for processing the logs.  Overall the project completed 26 days before time and with 42% of cost savings for the BPO over forecasted cost.

 

 

  • Project :     Conversion of Payroll and Inventory Package

    • Description: Objective of this Project was to convert an existing Payroll and Inventory Package from Fijutsu COBOL to VB/MS SQL.  The propriety code was written in Fijutsu COBOL to integrate with other propriety applications.  This project required onsite coordination at Chicago, US.  We studied (yes learnt COBOL in 2 months !!) and analyzed the existing system and seamlessly migrated to VB/MSSQL without a single day of downtime.

    • Major Achievements: This company was processing US Income Tax and Driver License forms everyday with a floor strength of approx 100 operators.   We achieved the challenge of migrating their performance integrated systems without a single day of down-time. 

 

  • Project :     US Police Incident Report Forms

    • Description: This project was to capture and process the US Police Incident Report Forms.  The project volumes were huge starting from year 2000 to 2004.  The customer wanted the data for Archival and Analysis.  The inputs were given to us in the form of Images and Validation Data.  The Turn Around Time of the project was 4 months.

    • Team Size: IT : 7.   Operations : Team Leaders : 12.  Operators : 140

    • Technology Used:  PHP, MySQL, Linux, VB, MS SQL

    • Major Achievements: The project required high degree of Data Security and Process Validations.  We implemented innovative methods of Image Encryptions and partial images displays to operators with tight Data access control.  We also ensured that the complete set of Data after collation was available to only a small responsible Team.  Maintained replicated Databases and redundant Servers for 24 x 7 Production environment.  Project completed successfully on time and the customer gave us references for other projects.

 

 

  • Project  :    US Voter Registration Cards, US Chain Store - Order Processing Form

 

    • Description: This project was to capture and process the US Voter Registration Car for various Counties and Chain Store Order Processing Forms.  The Project was based on weekly/daily Turn Around Times. 

    • Team Size: IT : 7-15.   Operations : Team Leaders : 4-10.  Operators : 36-100

    • My Profile: Project Manager (IT) and Asst Manager (Operations)

    • Technology Used:  PHP, MySQL, Linux, VB, MS SQL

    • Major Achievements: The project required accurate planning and forecasting for meeting the Turn Around Times for processing Gift Forms for Christmas/New Year.  Cross training of Operators and Team Leaders for adhering to stringent guidelines given by the customer was a major achievement.  The validations and processing for the Order Processing Forms were complex and constantly changing.  Extensive use of DLL & Active X components was done to complete the software development and accommodate frequent changes.

 

 

  • Project :     MIS Reports

 

    • Description: Project to measure and report various operating parameters of the BPO. The operators incentives, appraisals, performance and health of the Facility was managed by these reports.

    • Technology Used:  PHP, MySQL, Linux, ASP, MS SQL

    • Major Achievements: Hierarchical access control and off line processing of the logs were implemented  to get accurate real-time information.  Generated and instilled confidence in the reporting figures to base business decisions.  Implemented complex stored procedures and SQLs to generate required MIS information.

 

 

  • Project :     Offshore Software Development for Vehicle Registration & Sales Tax Forms (ST1/2)

 

    • Description: Project was assigned to develop Interfaces for capturing data for Vehicle Registration & Sales Tax Forms (ST1/2).  The development was to be completed in India and deployed in the US office on real time Production machines.  We were assigned a turnkey contract from software development to actual onsite deployment.

    • Team Size: IT - 12

    • My Profile: Project Manager (IT).  Responsibilities include Staffing, Technical Lead, Design Architect and Team Manager.

    • Technology Used:  VB6, ASP, MS SQL 2000

    • Major Achievements: This project is still in progress.  We are in the process of development and implementation of these Projects with onshore support.

 

   

  • Project :     Barrack Warden Inventory Management System

 

    • Description: Project was to maintain the Inventory System of the Barrack Warden at Air Force station Pune.

    • Team Size: IT - 2

    • My Profile: Analyst and Developer.

    • Technology Used:  VB6, MS SQL 7

    • Major Achievements: Completed this project while serving in the Air Force.  Got written appreciation letter from Chief Administrative Office of Air Force Pune for implementing the Barrack Warden System.  The System helped greater utilization of inventory and helped reduce two clerks engaged in invoicing and record keeping.

 

 

  • Project :     On-line Registry System

 

    • Description: Project was to maintain online physical track of Paper Case files and Snail Mails running between Inter Ministry and Air Headquarter Branches.

    • Team Size: IT - 3

    • My Profile: Analyst and Developer.

    • Technology Used:  Oracle Forms 3.0, Reports 1.1, Oracle 7.1 over SCO Unix

    • Major Achievements: System maintained online track of file/mail movements and their logical progress from physically separated buildings and branches through WAN.  The system was developed for VT100 terminals connected on SCO Unix over Multiplexers with only character based display.

 

  

  • Project :     Search Engine Optimization and Website Content Management

 

    • Description: Project was to optimize the company website to make it Search Engine friendly and appear in first pages of search displays on major search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc.

    • Team Size: SEO - 1

    • My Profile: Project Manager

    • Technology Used:  Keyword Optimization, Back Linking etc.

    • Major Achievements: Utilizing various Search Engine Optimization techniques, like keyword density, keyword optimization, back linking, location of keywords etc.  We succeeded in getting the website on page 1 of Google after six months of effort. I also handled the website content development in liaison with a technical writer.

 

  

  • Project :     Question Bank & Random Question Paper Selection

 

    • Description: Project was to provide interface to input and capture various Engineering questions required for Air Force Departmental examinations in line with NCERT guidelines.  Each questions were classified based on category, difficulty level etc.  The Software provided entry, retrieval and reporting of the Data Bank.  The second section of the software was used to randomly select questions based on various parameters for the Departmental Exam.

    • Technology Used:  dBase III+/FoxBase/FoxPro

    • Major Achievements: Code contained more than 5000 lines of code. Software provided complete automation for maintaining Question Banks & Papers.  Paper work and laborious maintenance of Card system were phased out.  

  

 

  • Project :     Client � Department Access Control

 

    • Description: This project was implemented on a Linux Server

    • Team Size: 1

    • My Profile: Analyst & Developer

    • Technology Used:  Bash Scripting

    • Major Achievements: Reduced 2 manpower exclusively using FTP to segregate and mail customers and departments for allocation of work.  Bash script periodically checked clients file and distributed them.  Monitoring and Emailing functions were also built into the Script.  Different mail templates were used for different clients and departments.

  

DATA BASE ADMINISTRATION PROJECT

 

 

 

       Scheduled Maintenance Plans for US based DB on MS SQL 2000 of 72 Million Records.  Creation,  implementation and auto monitoring of scheduled maintenance plans.  Creation of DTS packages, Full Search keyword indexes etc.  Full/differential backup of DB of 80 GB size.

 

       Undertook installation, tuning and maintenance of  Oracle 7.1 database on a SCO Unix Server.  Tasks involved includes tape backups and performance monitoring etc.

 

       Replication & Load Balancing of MS SQL 2000.  Installed and implemented a Push/Pull replication server for load balancing of application load.

 

       MySQL Installation & Maintenance on Linux.  Advanced Cron jobs for Re-Indexing, Updating Stats, Binary logging, Data dumps etc.  Slow query trapping and other advanced DB activities.

 

       Stored Procedures for DBA activities like Re-Indexes, De-Fragmentation etc.

   

NETWORK & SECURITY RELATED PROJECTS

 

  

 

       Installed IPTables on US hosted Linux Servers with tight access controls.  Server hosted for last 2 years without any security violations.

 

       Activating TCP Wrappers to restrict access based on IPs for specified protocols.

 

       Configured and Managed Cyberguard Firewall device at remote IL office.  This is a hardware firewall like Checkpoint etc.

 

       Access Control Policies, Squid Proxy Access Lists, Black listing URLs & Access Monitoring at Indian office.

 

       Installed and configured IDS � Tripwire, Snort and MRTG for Network Security Management.

 

       Controlled heavy Intrusion attempts on US hosted Linux Servers by installing PAM Authentication Module to restrict number of Login Attempts.  PAM configured to disable login for a specified period after repeated authentication failure.

 

       Enabled TCP Wrappers for IP and Protocol based login policies on US hosted Linux Servers.  Few protocols like SSH were allowed only with specified IPs.  Backdoor entry through another Server kept open for road warriors.

 

       Ran third party Intrusion Detection and Vulnerability Detection programs to check and Harden server security.

 

       Managed Patch Installations and RPM Upgradations on Linux as well as Windows Servers.

 

       Installed Remote Syncrhonization on two Linux Servers for complete fail-over Mirroring.

   

REMOTE INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT PROJECT

 

 

       Lead the Team of engineers for remote office Infrastructure Installation and Support.  Remotely configured and managed the following services for our US office with 15 PCs and 2 Servers.

 

         SMTP Mail

         Web Service

         Anti-Virus/Spy ware Installation & Updates.

         Security Patch Management

         VPN  (PPTP Server)

         Firewall/IDS on CyberGuard (Hardware Firewall)

         Proxy with browsing control

         Backups & HDD Mirroring

         Access monitor & control.  

 

  

TECHNICAL SUPPORT MANAGEMENT

 

 

  

       Managed technical support with 4 Desktop/ Server Engineers for a US based BPO with 250 seats. Types of call handled were :-

 

o        Installations & Configurations

o        Hardware Related

o        Application Related

 

       Implemented trouble ticket system for Internal customers and auto-escalation limits for unattended tickets.  Attained high level of satisfaction levels from Internal Customers.

 

       Coordinated Technical Support with AMC engineers at Air Force Headquarters New Delhi.  Handled first line contact with internal customers.  Undertook hardware inventory and spare parts procurement from local vendors.

 

       Regional Headquarters Shillong.  Handled Installations, Technical Support and Troubleshooting of network and devices.

 

       Technical Support for US Sales Team for managing Linux Server Access controls and Process Controls for clients.  Support was handled via Chat & Email.  Calls handled are like:-

         Modify Existing Customer Rights

         Disable Existing Customer

         Access violations & Login difficulties.

         Assigning Clients with different Departments for auto mailing and file sharing.

US Police Incident Forms, US Voter Registration Project

  • Defined escalation criteria, support procedures & call logging procedures.

 

General Voice Transcription Unit

 

  • Managed a General Voice Transcription Unit of 15 Transcribers/Editors.  This was a response survey by one of the largest stores in US. 

  • Was responsible for forming the team, technology implementation, training and execution of the Project.  Various technology tools were provided for process automation, quality checking and general efficiency.  The Project is successfully running for the 2nd year now with daily turn around times.
