Segwyne

Segwyne is one of my oldest characters. I have been playing her since July 17, 1999. Her constant companion through the campaign has been Tharsis. At least, until recently, but you can read about that in his story. Segwyne was born a human in a world of my husband's imagination. She was raised by her mother in a medium-sized town with a wide diversity of residents. There she learned the art of illusory magic and set foot on the path to become a specialist wizard. When she was 25, she decided to see more of the world and headed out towards Grondor's Ridge, a town that was recently delivered from a terrible disease and was now rebuilding after 20 years of isolation. Shortly before arriving she found herself in the company of some folks who would soon become long-term travel companions. Among them were Tharsis, Malathion, Arrellion, Blackstonian and Essla, as well as a handful of others that migrated in and out of the group.

They uncovered a plot against the people, and when they went to Prince Dellak about it, he sent them on a quest across the world to retrieve the Oracle of Tel az el Raiz. Naturally, this took us through a wide assortment of cultures, and we got to experience a little bit of different D&D worlds in the process. Along the way we picked up permanent group members Gremkell, Balin and Tripallium, but Essla left to go do other stuff. We eventually got the Oracle, which was a genie trapped in a mirror, and returned to Grondor's Ridge. As it turns out, the prince was in on the plot, and he sent us on the quest to get us out of the way so he could summon forth a god. Fun, fun! We rescued Essla from her punishment for trying to assassinate Dellak, then attempted to foil this summoning, but his father (a pit fiend) decided to come play, too. In the end, the god pulled Dellak into a rift and thumped the world, at which point we changed from 2nd edition rules to 3.5 edition rules. The next morning, Segwyne woke up as a half-dragon. Woohoo! Turns out Mommy raised her alone because Daddy was a green dragon. But we still had to deal with the aftermath in the rest of the world. And Dellak got spit back out as a vampire to try to dominate the world.

We traversed more of the world and raced Dellak to get uber-powerful relics. Eventually, we found ourselves in a tower whose riddle we had to solve in order to use its powers of time travel. We used it to go back in time to the very beginning of the campaign and assassinated Dellak when he was still human. Way cool.

This campaign is now on hold so my husband can run Underdark. It promises to be just as fun.
