Chapter 4

Amy, Taylor, and Angela got up early the next morning to get courtside seats at the charity basketball game. "Who are they playing against again?" asked Amy.

"98 Degrees. One of the Boys has to sit out though so the teams are even," replied Angela.

"Hey, you want something to eat?" asked Amy.

"Yeah, I'll go with you," said Taylor.

On their way back from the hot dog stand, the two noticed Angela was talking to a rather buff guy. On closer inspection she had been chatting with Drew Lachey of 98 Degrees. "Hey guys. This is Drew. Drew, this is Amy and Taylor."

"Hi," he said with a smile. The amiable conversation continued for a few minutes until the rest of the guys came out of the locker room.

The game began and the crowd of mostly girls screamed and cheered every time a shot was made. Kevin took a jump shot from just outside the key but missed the basket completely. "Get it IN the net babe," Amy called. He looked at her and raised an eyebrow. She smiled sweetly and sat back down.

About two minutes before the end of the first half Nick was slightly pushed by Jeff from the other team. The referee didn't take any notice so Taylor stood up and started yelling, "Are you crazy? That was a foul!..."

The game continued and so did Taylor. On his way back to the other side of the court Nick stopped and said in a reassuring voice, "It's ok honey. It's no big deal." She hesitated but sat down.

At half-time, the guys went to the locker room for a break. Drew approached Brian, "Hey man."

"Hey."

"Brian, I saw you talking to that girl, Angela earlier. Do you know her?"

"Yeah I do."

"Well I was wondering... Do you think she would go out with me if I asked her?" asked Drew.

"Uh...," Brian didn't know how to respond. He couldn't believe Drew didn't realize that Angela was Brian's girlfriend. "I really don't know," was how he finally responded.

"Oh ok. Thanks man."

The game resumed but Brian felt awkward for the remainder of time. The final score was BSB-98 vs. 98 deg.-92.

Drew approached Angela immediately after he had changed. "Hi again. I was wondering if you'd like to go get something to eat with me."

"Like a date?" she asked.

"Yeah."

"I'm sorry. I'm already seeing someone. Thanks anyway."

"Oh really? I didn't know. I'm so sorry. Well uh I guess I'll talk to you later. Bye," said Drew.

Brian walked up only to hear the last few words of the conversation. When Drew was far enough away, "You're not actually going out with that guy are you?" asked Brian in a hurt voice.

"What?" Angela exclaimed.

"I thought we had something special going on," said Brian, his tone of voice increasing in volume.

"Brian Thomas Littrell do you have any idea what you are talking about?" asked Taylor.

"I can't deal with this right now," said Angela walking toward the exit, her two friends following close behind.

"Brian? Are you ok?" asked Kevin.

"I'm fine. Let's go back to the hotel," snapped Brian.

Later that evening...

"So what's on TV tonight?" asked Angela.

"Austin Powers is on channel seven," said Amy.

"Yeah baby," replied Taylor. The three laughed as she continued to impersonate the shagadelic International Man of Mystery. Amidst the laughter, the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it," said Angela walked to the front hall. She opened the door and there was Brian with Tyke lying unconscious in his arms.

"Can you help me? Where is the nearest animal hospital?" he asked in desperation.

"Let's go. Tay, Ames! Meet us at the animal hospital," said Angela without hesitation.

When they arrived, Tyke was taken directly to the operating room. Angela and Brian sat in the waiting room. "So what happened?" asked Angela with concern.

"Well when I got back to the hotel, the poor thing was just laying there on the floor not breathing."

By the time Amy and Taylor arrived, the doctor had come to explain Tyke's condition. "What on earth happened?" asked Amy.

"The doctor said that Tyke had swallowed a twisty tie and it was cutting off his oxygen flow. They had to operate because the metal perforated his esophagus."

"Will he be ok?" asked Taylor.

"He needs some time to heal, but yes he'll be fine."

An hour had passed and Taylor and Amy were sound asleep on the waiting room chairs. Brian sat on the coffee table across from Angela. "Look, about today... Kevin told me that he overheard you telling Drew you had a boyfriend. I'm really sorry for what I said. I don't know what came over me. I guess I care about you more than I thought."

"I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have just walked out like that. I care about you so much. You can trust me around other guys because I wouldn't do anything to hurt you," replied Angela. They hugged and sat back down anxiously in the waiting room chairs.

A little while later, a doctor came out with a basket. Inside was Tyke half-wrapped in a blanket fast asleep. "How is he doctor?" asked Brian taking the basket.

"He's doing remarkably well. Tyke was very responsive during surgery and we were able to repair the damage. Since he's still young, Tyke will heal quickly with minimal scarring. However, his vocal chords are still weak, so try to keep him as calm as possible. I've used dissolvable stitches, so just apply this ointment to the scar once a day and he should be fine. The ointment will also help subdue his need to scratch the area." The doctor handed Brian the medicine.

"Thank you so much doctor. This dog means a lot to me. I'll be sure to take care of him."

They walked out the doors towards Brian's car, "Hey B-rok, do you want to stay at our house tonight? Maybe Tyke would be more comfortable there than at the hotel," suggested Taylor.

"If you don't mind, that'd be great," replied Brian.

The three girls set up pillows and blankets all around the living room. "Let's just hope Tyke doesn't get lost among all these... hehe... Thanks so much for your help tonight. See you in the morning," said Brian placing the dog in the middle of the room.

"No problem. You know where we'll be if you need anything," said Angela, and with that the girls went off to bed.

At about 2:00 AM Brian heard a thud from outside. He peered through the window to see a dark-haired girl walk to the back of the house.
