Taylor awoke to the sound of her phone ringing. It was 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July second. She picked up the phone, cleared her throat, and said, "Hello?"
"Hi Tay, it's Brian. Did I wake you?"
"No. Not at all. I'm always awake at 5:30 on a Saturday morning in the middle of summer," replied Taylor in a sarcastic tone.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't think of the time difference between Florida and California. Well, I've got some good news... but I can't tell you what it is yet."
"Wait a second. You call me at 5:30 in the morning, tell me you've got some good news but you can't tell me?" she said.
"I know it sounds stupid... Anyway, umm is Angela there?"
"No she parties twenty-four hours a day."
"What?!" asked Brian.
"Sorry, I get sarcastic after five hours of sleep. Hang on," Taylor put her hand over the mouthpiece and yelled, "Hey Ang, your lover boy is on the phone!"
Angela trudged into Taylor's room in her robe, rubbed her eyes and said, "Huh?"
"It's Brian for you."
"Oh," replied Angela with a smile. She took the phone, "Hey you," she said into the receiver.
"Hey baby, what's your sign?"
"No trespassing," she replied with a laugh.
"Hehe... So, uh, what are you wearing?"
"It's 5:30 in the morning, use your imagination."
"Oh my...," was all he could say.
"Where are you? The reception on the phone is crappy," asked Angela.
"I'm in the car right now. I just had the sudden urge to call you."
"Aww... That's so sweet. Oh hang on, the doorbell's ringing," Angela walked down the stairs of the girl's house to the door.
Taylor and Amy ran out into the hallway when they heard Angela scream.
Back downstairs Angela said, "Brian! What the hell are you doing here?" There was Brian standing on the porch with a great big blue bow on his head.
"Surprise!" he said.
There was a rustle in the bushes and a faint voice that said, "Dude, get off of me!"
Amy and Taylor came to the door looking worried, but soon they matched the happy shrieks of Angela.
Kevin crawled out of the bushes with a huge teddy bear. He brushed the leaves off himself and the bear and stepped forward. Amy walked out the door and hugged Kevin. He handed her the stuffed animal and said, "Hi! I've missed you this past month." She didn't say a word, just planted a huge kiss on his lips. "I guess you missed me too," he replied.
Nick stepped out of the bushes with a rose in his mouth. He smiled at Taylor but said, "Ouch!"
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"I didn't get all the thorns off and one cut my lip," he said with puppy-dog eyes.
"Aww...," she said kissing him softly. "Where's AJ and Howie?" Taylor asked looking around.
"They're back at the hotel sleeping," replied Brian. The six went back inside the house. The guys helped themselves to breakfast while the girls went upstairs to get dressed.
Taylor came down to the living room half an hour later. She giggled softly when she saw Brian and Kevin asleep on the couch with crumbs from the Pop Tarts on their shirts. Nick slipped his arms around Taylor's waist and rested his chin on the top of her head. "Guess they were still tired," said Taylor.
"Yeah, I don't think either slept well last night."
"So what's the real reason you're here?"
"We're here for a charity basketball game and a Rosie O'Donnell special on Friday. But seeing you was a huge bonus... You guys have a great house here," said Nick.
"Thanks. We would offer you to stay, only we don't have the room."
"It's alright. The hotel's only about a ten minute drive from here."
Everyone relaxed around the house (occasionally drifting off to sleep) for the rest of the morning.
