Over
the Rainbow
(mommy's poetry port)
If our eyes had no tears,
our soul would have no rainbow.
a Native American quote
Welcome friends, to my little poetry place. I love writing poetry! Some are good, some aren't so good but poetry is an inner feeling, felt differently by different people. I hope you enjoy these poems. I put my original poems in blue and other poems I love are in black.

Where did you come
from baby dear?
Out of everywhere
into here.
Where did you get
your eyes so blue?
Out of the sky as
I came through.
Where did you get
that little tear?
I found it waiting
when I got here.
What makes your
forehead so smoothe & high?
A soft hand stroked
it as I went by.
What makes your
cheek like a warm, pink rose?
I saw something
better than anyone knows.

Hold On To Today
Can you grasp a summer
breeze as it passes on by,
whistling through
the trees, quiet as an underbreathe sigh?
Can you capture
a bird in it's flight, soaring toward the sun,
wings gliding out
of sight, faster higher, til his trace is none?
Can you make a little
baby stay just the wasy he is, so small,
freeze a single
moment maybe, from him growing strong and tall?
Time keeps on passing,
each moment goes. All we can do
is hold a memory
in mind,
replay each scene
that a mother's heart knows,
And embrace each
new day til it quietly slips away.

Amazement
I've never felt love
before the way that I felt that day
you came into my
life in your own special way.
I've loved a parent,
sister, friend...husband, yes, I have too.
But never in any
dream, felt love like this, that I feel for you.
My child, part of
me is part of you, I look for myself in your eyes, your nose,
the way you smile,
am I there? The things I see comes and goes.
Anyway, I just wanted
you to know, though how could I explain?
That I love you
SO much, though Love is just a name.

Inside your world
Little one, so small
and frail
your fingers tiny
and soft.
Wrap my fingers
snugly
as my heart soars
aloft.
We sit and play
in your little world
laughing at an unknown
joke.
you can't talk much
yet,
but your imagination
has awoke.
For a moment in
time
I totally understand
life
is alive with joy
for you,
no worry, no hate,
no pain or strife.
Thank you for letting
me inside,
may I come again
sometime?
To laugh and play
and dance
and to leave the
world behind.

What Did I Do Today?
What did I do today?
Today I left some dishes dirty,
The bed got made around 3:30.
The diapers soaked a little longer,
The odor grew a little stronger.
The crumbs I spilled the day before,
Are staring at me from the floor.
The fingerprints there on the wall,
Will likely be there still next fall.
The dirty streaks on those window panes,
Will still be there next time it rains.
Shame on you, you sit and say,
Just what did you do today?
I nursed a baby till he slept,
I held a toddler while she wept.
I played a game of hide and seek,
I squeezed a toy so it would squeak.
I pulled a wagon, sang a song,
Taught a child right from wrong.
What did I do this whole day through?
Not much that shows, I guess that' s true.
Unless you think that what I've done,
Might be important to someone,
With bright brown eyes and soft brown
hair,
If that is true...I've done my share.

I wrote this about my twin boys, but as
you can see
it can also apply to singletons too!
Twins tackle the twos
Two little tykes
in a frenzy oh my!
Looking always,
for new things to try.
Running "two" and
fro as twins will do,
trying to be so
big but only two.
Every new adventure
is such a thrill,
the things
they can do...oh what a chill!
Climbing up to unchartered
places,
such determination
on their little faces.
Thinking "We must
touch, we must taste,
til our home is
turned to WASTE!"
As they grow an inch,
more to explore.
Mommy reminisces
of her "babes" before.
Then off to dreamland
they eventually fall,
ohh...they look
so sweet, after all.
Cleaning up the messes,
I ponder to myself
as I put the
remaining sugar back up on the shelf!
What a wonder it
must be,
to embrace everything
we see,
For all things to
be new,
Oh what a shame...we
grew.

There are those who
believe
So the story is
told,
That at birth you
receive
Your own Angel to
hold.
You come into this
world
On a wing and a
prayer,
And throughout your
lifetime
She will always
be there.
A Guardian Angel
Who will guide what
you do,
Her pure essence
is Love
Sent to watch over
you.

When you thought I wasn't looking
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the
refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought
it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
and I knew that little things are special
things.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I heard you say a prayer,
and I believed there is a God I could
always talk to.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I felt you kiss me good night,
and I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes,
and I learned that sometimes things hurt,
but it's all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw that you cared
and I wanted to be everything that I could
be.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked
...
and wanted to say thanks for all the things
I saw
when you thought I wasn't looking.

A few quotes I like to try to remember & live by.
*Love isn't what you feel, it's what you do.
*Love your children for who they are, not who you want them to be.
*When your child acts like a two year old, try not to act like one yourself.
*Let a child be a child,not a small adult.
*Respect your children (would you yell at a friend? then why yell at a child?)
*Remember "this too shall pass".
*When the rains go...rainbows.
