Listen to what Abbi Sees

                                       Abbi         .               E.J.

  written by her mommy, Billie-
the animation means " I love you" in ASL

These are special poems written from a mother to her hearing impaired daughter
I am proud to share them with her permission.

 ABBI'S EARS ARE BROKEN

Little bitty Abbi is a tiny little girl. She has big bright eyes and alot of
              little curls.
She has busy little hands and the cutest little grin. Tiny little feet and
              a dimple in her chin.
She has a mommy and a daddy and a big brother, too. His name is
E.J. and he's really glad to meet you.
He has alot of little things that he wants to know about. Like why Abbis'
ears are broken and she can't hear him shout.
Some questions don't have answers that we can understand. So
E.J.,sweetie, all we know is, it is part of Gods' great plan.

   GOD MADE ABBI SPECIAL

Everyone is different, even you and me.
If God made us all the same how yucky that
                  would be.

Red hair and freckles, really short or really tall.
Braces on our teeth or legs, there's something
                  special 'bout us all.

God made Abbi special...her ears don't work, you see.
She can't hear the birds that sing or
                  wind blow through the trees.

But she doesn't seem to mind that she doesn't get to hear.
She knows that she is special and
                  so are you, my dear.

   LISTEN TO WHAT ABBI SEES

If you listen very closely you can hear lots of little things.
Like the sound of others laughing or when your mommy sings.
You can hear a puppy whimper when he needs a little hug.
You can hear the sound a bee makes and other little bugs.
Abbi cannot hear these things, but, oh, what she can see.
She doesn't miss a thing...her eyes are busy as can be.
If you listen very closely you can hear what Abbi sees.
She sees laughter in a smile...she sees love when mommy sings
She can see a puppys' whimper in his sad little eyes.
She can see the sound a bee makes when he is buzzing 'round his hive.
Now put your hands over your ears and close them up real tight.
Now that's the sounds that Abbi hears. She hears them with her eyes.

OH, WHAT ABBIS' HANDS CAN DO

Little tiny hands can do lots of great big things. Like make a great big mess
          that mommy has to clean.

They can point at little birds and climb a great big tree. They can pick a
pretty flower and wave at you and me.

You can use them to pick up things that have fallen to the floor. You can
use them to turn the knob when someone's at the door.

But Abbi does the neatest things with her little hands. She uses them
to talk to me... try it if you can.

Here's the sign that Abbi makes when she wants some more to eat. This is how she
tells me, "I want my shoes on my feet."

There's alot of things that your little hands can do. So try to see
if you can do what Abbis' hands can do.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD

If we could make a whole new world for all of us to live.
The most important thing of all would
 be what we could give.

We could make a special place for everyone we know.
And no one would be laughed at
and told they had to go.

Maybe we can do it. We'll just change this one we've got.
Together we can make it.
We'll just have to do alot.

Everything would be so nice and Abbi would fit in.
Even though she cannot hear she
still could join right in.

So each of us will have to think about what we can do.
And then we'll have a whole
new world just for me and you.
