Digimon Adventure
In The End

Prologue
It was an unusually cold summer's day. Many were wearing jumpers and pants and staying away from the beaches. Very few remembered the strange weather conditions from exactly one year ago and it was unnerving to think that monsters would attack once again. But nobody realised the dangers. Nobody seemed to care. But for one group of children, they were about to have their lives changed ... again.

Akaike Kazumi lived with her grandmother in Tomachi, a nice little town situated in Japan. She didn't have many friends, her two best friends were both boys. Akiyama Ryo and Ichijoji Ken. Ryo really cared for her, but she didn't know it. Ken was like her little brother and she had always treated him that way.

"Kazumi has medium brown, waist length hair and deep brown eyes. She has pale skin, she doesn't tan easily. I've been watching over her for so long ... ever since it happened. She has been through so much, and she's only twelve years old. I sometimes wish there was some way ... just some way I could make it all go away. Some memory thing, so all her troubles would be gone. But there's no way the two of us could ever meet. There was just no way..."

"Kazumi! I can't believe you made it!" Ryo said, running towards her. She looked at him a little dully, showing she didn't particularly want to be there.

"Ryo ... you know you're not supposed to..."

" - Call you Kazumi. Right, I know that, Kaz. I'm just so glad you made it! Your grandmother never lets you go anywhere!"

"Pfft..." She hissed, crossing her arms over her chest. "That woman never lets me go anywhere. For crying out loud, I'm 12! I should be allowed to go wherever I want at this age, just like you!" She walked ahead of her best friend, not wanting to look him in the eye.

Ryo groaned and chased after her. "Kaz ... you know why..."

"Ryo! Kaz!" A voice called out to them. Just ahead of them, a small boy ran. He was waving, a smile on his face as he approached them.

"Ken! Why are you so happy?" Kaz asked as he reached them. He rummaged through his backpack, then pulled out what looked like a make-up compact. He flipped it open and there was a screen and a small keypad. He typed something in it and a face appeared on the screen. A cute little caterpillar thing smiled at him.

"Hello Ken! It's good to talk to you again!"

"...what is that?" Kaz asked, staring at it with a bit of disgust. She couldn't stand bugs.

"Isn't it..." Ryo began, but found Kaz staring at him. "The picture you drew a while ago?" He managed to wink at Ken without Kaz seeing.

"Um ... yeah ... I call it Wormmon..." Ken eyed Ryo, but decided it best to ignore it. For now, anyway.

"That's what most people call me Ken!" It said, smiling a bit more. Kaz stared at it some more. "Did you make this yourself?"

Ken smiled and nodded. "Yup! With a little help from Wormmon, of course!"

"He has such a big imagination, doesn't he?" Ryo said, laughing nervously.

"You're not telling me something Ryo."

Ryo flinched. She knew him too well. He couldn't let her know, he had no idea how she would take it. She probably wouldn't believe him anyway.

"What?"

"Fine, if you won't tell me, I won't force it out of you." Kaz turned to Ken, kneeling down so she could see eye to eye.

That was weird... Ryo thought. She's never given up so easily before...

"Ken, are you sure you're ready for today?" Kaz asked. He nodded, putting his device away.

"I'm always ready to visit my brother."

"Okay everyone! We're here!" Taichi called out, waving to the others. Half of them had slacked off and were a fair bit away from there.

"Taichi ... this is a cemetery." Hikari said, staring at the gravestones.

"Not the cemetery! Look there!" He pointed across the road. "There's a park there! We're gonna hang around there for today! Don't you remember that park Hikari?"

His sister shook her head. "No. I don't ever remember going to a place called Tomachi either."

"Hikari-chan, don't worry about it! I'm sure we'll have lots of fun!" Takeru said, running towards the park.

"Takeru! You know you're not meant to cross the road like that!" Yamato called after him, chasing his brother.

"Good thing there's hardly any traffic here." Koushiro said, staring at his laptop as he too crossed.

"Taichi..." Sora's voice came. She stared at him, looking a little sad.

"What is it?"

"It's ... nothing really ... just ... look over there." She looked in the cemetery. Taichi followed her gaze, seeing three children their age. One was on his knees, praying silently, a girl stood there, looking as though she may cry and the last boy stood furthest away from them both, not wanting to let any of his emotions out.

"So?" He asked, looking back at Sora.

"Idiot!" She said, about to whack him over the head. "Maybe you should invite them!"

"Oh..." He said, looking back at them. "Sora, maybe they want to stay there. They wanted to visit whoever it was they knew."

"You don't know that."

"Neither do you. Don't you want it to be just all of us anyway? So we can try and contact the digimon?"

Sora looked at him.

"Tell you what." He said. "When they leave, we'll invite them over. They refuse, we're not gonna push them. Okay?"

She smiled and nodded, then grabbed Hikari's hand and crossed the road.

Jyou and Mimi finally caught up.

"I'm tired! Are we there yet?" Mimi whined. Jyou looked at Taichi with pleading eyes.

"Please ... I wanted to catch up but she wouldn't let me leave ... just don't make me hang around her again."

"Hmph! Well if that's the way you feel Jyou you should have just told me!" Mimi turned, rushing across the road.

"Mimi! I didn't mean it like that!!" Jyou gasped, racing after her. Taichi couldn't help but grin as he watched his friends. They hadn't been together for one year and now here they were, as if they hadn't seperated. He turned back to the cemetery, taking in what Sora had said.

The girl quickly turned, her eyes meeting his. She looked away, looking a little embarrassed but he thought nothing of it.

"Kaz, are you all right?" Ryo asked. She nodded her head, biting her lower lip.

"It's nothing ... just ... have we met them before?" She looked in the direction of the eight children playing across the road.

Ryo stared at them. "I don't remember seeing them anywhere before. Maybe you've met them somewhere?" She shook her head.

"I remember everyone I've ever met, Ryo." She said, turning to leave. Ryo stared after her, but didn't move.

"You're just letting her walk away?" Ken asked, now standing.

"She's acting weird Ken. There's something wrong with her." Sighing, Ken began to walk after her, knowing Ryo would follow.

"Kaz! Wait up!" He called out. She stopped, looking back at him. "We're ready to leave with you, if that' all right."

She broke into a weak smile, Ryo could see it was fake.

Suddenly, Ken's device started to beep and flash. Lights and noises coming from it that Ken didn't know were there. This suddenly brought attention to the three children but across the road, the same thing was happening.

***

Koushiro's laptop had completely lost it. The screen was displaying colours in the natural spectrum order, but other colours were added that weren't normally there. Pink flashed first, followed by red, orange, yellow, green, emerald, light blue, blue, indigo, purple, black then white. Continuing this order, loud noises were coming from the laptop, the main one being a low humming noise.

"What's going on?" Yamato asked, leaning forward and prying the laptop off Koushiro.

"I'm not sure! Do you think, I know everything?" He snapped, trying to grab the laptop back.

Taichi ran over, taking the computer and holding it high above his head.

"We're not getting anywhere like this! Just tell me how to shut it off!"

"You can't shut it off! I tried that already!"

"Why is this laptop causing us all to argue?" Mimi called out, trying to bring some order to the group. Jyou stood behind Taichi, staring at the laptop blankly.

"This doesn't make any sense."

"Thank you Mr. Obvious!" Taichi snapped.

"No, really! What's that writing on there mean?"

Everything suddenly came to a halt, the noise and lights suddenly stopping. Taichi lowered the laptop and read the words out.

"We're calling for your help. You are the only ones that can save us. Please return here and we will tell you of our plan ... The hell? Return where?"

"I think we're about to find out..." Koushiro said. Electricity began zapping out of the laptop. Taichi dropped it as a reaction, but couldn't help get closer to it. Something indescribable happened next, there was a flash of dark light, and everyone in the area had disappeared.
