| September 26, 2008 WOW---sorry for the HUGE delay in an update! Kaylyn has been extremely busy since the last update. She was able to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa Mac in July while Mommy and Daddy went to Lindstrom to spend a few days with Uncle Todd and Auntie Abby. Kaylyn had a blast being the princess at G and G's house. She turned in to quite a gardener helping Grandpa water the garden and Grandma pick beans. She also got a Dora backpack toy while shopping with Grandma which has been quite a hit at our house with all her friends, especially cousins Jake and Max. August went by in a flash preparing for the start of they school year. Kaylyn spent lots of time in Mommy's classroom helping me prepare for my new students. She really liked writing her name on things I was making for my students----since then, she writes her name on EVERYTHING!!---It is so neat! We also took some time to have a few play dates we had been planning most of the summer. We spent a morning playing with Mommy's friend Nikki and her two boys, Teagan and Dawson. We also made a trip to Makoti to spend a day with our friends Melissa and Josie. Kaylyn and Josie picked up right where they left off---playing with toys and swimming in the pool--of course, they had to switch Mommies which was always the way it was. Kaylyn absolutely LOVES Melissa and Josie was excited to see "Mrs. MacIver!" We also got to tour their new house! Kaylyn also continued her weekly trips to the zoo with mommy---she had so much fun visiting the zoo this summer and is constantly talking about all the animals! Kaylyn was extremely excited to get back to school, especially to see her teacher Lana and to ride the bus! She is once again attending preschool at McKinley every morning. Mommy drops her off at Adopted Grandma Betty's house in the morning, where she enjoys playing with Betty's dog, Putzy, Betty's cat, Shoppo, and eating her morning pancake. She rides the bus to school in the morning and from school to daycare after the morning session is through. We had a few bumps with her bussing schedule but seemed to have worked out most of them---she is on the bus for almost an hour after her school day is done, which we aren't too happy about but she seems to enjoy it so...... She is also working with a new Hearing teacher, LaVone. She is in class with 5 boys and 1 girl. She was the only girl in her class until this past tuesday when her friend Kimberly (from last year) was moved from the afternoon to the morning session. They were soooo excited to see each other, they hugged and hugged and hugged Kimberly's first day at class. Our Sundays are busy this year---and not just with watching football. Kaylyn has begun Sunday school and is really enjoying it. She was a little hard to convince the first day, but once she was in the room, it was fine. She is also taking dance classes in the afternoon and doing very well. She has had 2 lessons and it is about the cutest thing you will ever see! Last Sunday they practiced sneaking around the stage and then running back to find their spots---that's been the main focus with the 4 and 5-year-olds--finding their spot in line. It's an adventure, that's for sure. Last week she did very well for the first 30 minutes, then the last 15, she kept running over to me and saying, "Mommy, I'm dancing!" Then after I shooed her away, she would run back to her spot! It's fun to see her enjoy dancing so much! She will have one performance in the spring. Her latest trick she has learned is turning off her hearing aid. When we were at the park last month, Mommy told her it was time to go home. She wasn't ready, so she switched off her hearing aids and kept playing---she is very smart, but a little stinker some times!!! Daddy and Kaylyn were featured in the Minot State Alummi Magazine and the Minot Daily News. It was really neat to see the articles about the importance of dads being involved in child development. We have several copies. If anyone is interested in seeing them, let me know! Kaylyn, Grammy, Max, Auntie, and Mommy spent a fun weekend in Bismarck in early September to see Sesame Street Live. Kaylyn LOVED it just as much as she did when we saw it in Minneapolis. Max fell asleep. The highlight of the day was the letter of the day in the show was "K." When Kaylyn heard that, her eyes lit up and she said, "K--K!" She is so proud of that letter and searches for it wherever we go! (She always looks for it in the check-out line at Walmart--she will say, "There's an 'm' for Mommy, and a "d" for Daddy---Where's "k" for Kaylyn!" Mommy and Kaylyn had a busy week.this past week with attending a Hearing Awareness Picnic and talking at the New Age Sertoma Meeting. We also have been soaking up the nice weather with visits to the park and intense baseball games in the yard! Kaylyn continues to play daily with her best friend----her shadow--I have never seen a kid so intrigued by their shadow. She always has to make sure her shadow is along with us! Kaylyn's favorite new phrases: "What you doing there? "What Happened?" "What'd you say?" Kaylyn's new favorite thing: PRINCESSES (new shirts, shoes, dress-up clothes, books, etc.--Daddy is LOVING it!!!) Well, that's all for now! Hope to update more consistently---this is such a great way to journal Kaylyn's life! |
