OB Appointment with Level II Ultrasound  08.16.04
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The morning turned out to be a long one. I checked in for my appointment, and immediately, the OB nurse sent me over to Ultrasound...'just in case' they could get me in earlier. No dice! I waited almost two hours before getting my ultrasound done. I sat impatiently waiting, because I was hoping to get my actual pre-natal appointment done, so I could have a snack before we did the ultrasound. (I'm ALWAYS hungry!) So, around 11:20 or so, Cody and I got to go back to the room, and we got to see our little boy again. He's growing rapidly! This time, we were able to see all four chambers of his heart, and everything is progressing normally as far as his development. He was a bit bashful this time, and kept his face pretty much hidden by his arms...but he had NO problems showing us his 'male stuff'. (Not bashful there!) We got to see his little feet; they are so cute! I can't believe that the little man is getting so big, so fast!  The ultrasound tech told us that he is approximately 15 ounces in weight, and 12 inches long.

After the ultrasound, I got to go back to the OB clinic, and was seen by the doctor. We addressed some concerns that I had about some severe pelvic pains that I'd been having. Turns out, what we thought was
round ligament pain is actually pelvic synthesis disorder. Unfortunately, there really isn't a whole lot that they can do for this pain, which essentially, is  caused by the separation of the bones in the pelvis caused by pregnancy. It is highly recommended that I get some physical therapy for it to help ease the discomfort. (I highly recommend the link indicated above; its a site done by a lady that had this same problem with her pregnancy, and she did an excellent job compiling information.) So, for the time being, I am waiting on physical therapy to call me and set up an appointment. Hopefully, I should hear something from them next week.

There is also a concern of the risk of my getting
diabetes while I am pregnant. We just found out that my eldest sister, (she is 43 years old), has diabetes. This goes the same for my paternal grandmother, paternal aunt, mother, and maternal aunt. The diabetes seems to be appearing late in life, (after age 40 or so), but being pregnant increases the chances of it appearing sooner. I'm optimistic about it, though...being as my mother, grandmother, and sister had children, and it still didn't show up until later on in their lives. Also another good sign: my urine has been coming back glucose free. (Diabetics have glucose show up in their urine with routine urine dips; all of mine have been normal.) To be on the safe side, however, I need to go in and have a test done for diabetes. This test is not normally done so early, but they are going to do it now, and repeat it again in 4-8 weeks. (So I get a double dose of that icky sweet orange syrup stuff! Lucky me!!)

Over all, this isn't so bad. I know that I am receiving a high quality of care, and that's important to us for the health of our son. My next OB check up is on 26 September.

Just a little side note: I'M HUGE!!!  *GRINS*
