Celebrations will be held from February 9 to 19. This is in celebration of the province’s 33rd Foundation Anniversary and the 124th Birth Anniversary of our lola Aurora A. Quezon. This year’s theme is “Best of Aurora’s Culture: Our Pride, Our Legacy”.

  BALER AURORA NOT BALER QUEZON



 

The whole of Quezon Province used to be called Tayabas. But the province was renamed Quezon to honor its most famous son, the former President, Manuel Quezon, born in Baler, Tayabas. 

Quezon is a unique province in that it extends from the boundary of Bicol to way up north, near Quirino province in the Sierra Madre. To correct this anomalous grouping of distant towns, the northernmost towns were lumped into a sub-province called Aurora, this time honoring his wife. The sub province eventually became an independent province.

Thus, Baler was formerly called, Baler, in the sub-province of Aurora, Province of Quezon.

Today, there is still a town called Aurora in Aurora province.
