| IS THE GERMAN SHEPHERD THE RGHT DOG FOR YOU????? | ||||||||
| The German shepherd is one of the most versitale working dogs ever developed. Not only are they used in the police force and make an excellent guard dog but they make a good sniffer tracker dog and even a guide dog for the blind, they are still even being used as shepherd dogs. It is a popular breed not only being the perfect protection but makes a perfect companion. The German Shepherd is very intelligent, quick to learn and please its owners and loves to sit around at your feet and loves to work and please. But it needs the right training and will be a loyal obedient companion for all the family and gets along with kids. Theres no such thing ever as a bad GSD, its the bad owner that makes the dog bad! So you are still interested in a gsd puppy then read on! | ||||||||
| A german shepherd is a large breed, have you got the space for one these little puppies tend to grow up very quickly and sadly dont stay very little for long, they need the space to play and run about do you have a house with a garden a well fenced garden? If you live in rented accomodation will your landlord allow pets?? Dogs love to here the sound of their own voices will this be a problem for your neighbours? Being a large energetic dog they need regular exercise have you got the time on your hands to exercise them at least twice a day for at least 30 minutes, Dogs need to go potty too yo know!! A german shepherd needs grooming too especialy if its one of the long haired types but the shorter haired needs grooming too! have you ever met a GSD, try to meet various breeders and owners, see their dogs talk to them, do your homework about the breed. so you are still interested??? Do you want a puppy or is an older dog suitable for you?? As you are probably aware of a puppy just like a baby needs lots of time, theres time spent potty training and remember if you work long hours and are not able to get home during the day and if you have your puppy crated long hours its not going to be very happy. Would you liked to be crated for long hours?? then maybe an older dog would suit you better if you are away from home during long hours there are so many older rescue dogs looking for a home! Puppys dont come cheap too, you have just broken your bank balance in purchasing it, have you taken into consideration about the innoculations puppies need to help them make that healthy start in life?? Puppies need training obedience training. training begins in puppyhood have you got the free time on your hands to spend with the puppy training it and going to training schools?? Are you considering a male or a female? I have owned both dogs and bitches and theres very little difference between them. The only main difference is that a bitch will come into season twice a year and to some people it can be messy. Do you plan to show or breed then maybe the bitch is for you. I would always recommend a bitch to have one litter of pups in her life and no more than one. I have came accross to many bitches that have been spayed and has caused health problems later. A dog tends to be more protective over the home whereas bitches tend to have a more placid nature. Two male dogs in general never get on whereas 2 bitches will be happy to share their home. A dog will tend to need a firmer hand and firmer training as they tend to think thereselves being more dominent, but generaly the choice between dog and bitch depends on the indivual although there is very little difference when regarding temperment. |
