Jake
is a big brother now Often
referring to his new sisters as "my babies," he enjoys laying
down next to them, pulling off their hats, and is fascinated by their
little body parts.

The twins are
here!
For those of you who have not
heard the story of how they came into the world, here it is:
It all happened so fast...
Michelle woke up at 2 a.m. Friday morning with a strange feeling something
was about to happen. It was only about twenty minutes later when her water
broke. Her contractions started off about two minutes apart, and were
already feeling quite painful. Eric called Dinah, their friend and babysitter,
to come over and watch Jake. She was "on call" - they had just
told her earlier that evening that it could be any day now. After Dinah
arrived, they left the house at approximately 3:40 a.m. While in the car,
Michelle's contractions began to occur more frequently. She said a couple
times that "she felt like she wanted to push." Eric was going
about 15-20 mph over the speed limit. They got to Lake Shore Drive (only
about 15 minutes to go) and, wouldn't you know it, a cop pulled them over.
Eric told the cop "I'm sorry, officer, but my wife is having twins
and her contractions are one minute apart!" He let them go without
a ticket. Anyway, they finally got to the hospital at 4:30 a.m. The first
baby (Emma Madelyn Kauppila - 4lbs, 5oz.) was born at 4:55 a.m. and the
second baby (Abigail Elizabeth Kauppila - 6lbs, 7oz.) was born at 4:59
a.m. Talk about close calls!
The official date of birth:
April 12th, 2002.
This day also happened to be Michelle's birthday.
Here
are a few of the photos that were taken on that day.
