Back to the book list.

While I have admired Maya Angelou for quite some time, my knowledge of her and her life was rather vague. I recently read "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings". This book is the beginning of an autobiography of her life covering early childhood, through rape at a very young age, until her mid-teens when a choice she made slammed her into adulthood.

As her poetry shows, Ms. Angelou has an eloquant and beautiful writing style. Her story is completely open and honest, offering an excellent insight to the world in which she grew up, as well as the woman she has become. I look forward to reading further of her life, and will write more as I learn more about her.
