Welcome!

Exploration Here in Room 202 we
explore, we question, we make mistakes...and we learn. Mathematics, the
science of pattern and order, helps
us size up the world around us. We look at real-world math examples from
our everyday lives, and apply them to the concepts we're learning.

Problem Solving and Practice Our
primary means of discovery is problem solving. Every day we tackle
problems - in groups and individually - and investigate solutions to see
what they tell us. Once we recognize concepts, we seek to understand
procedures to help us increase our problem solving efficiency. Practice is a
big part of this learning, and daily work, including
homework, is devoted to practice to reinforce numeracy (numerical
literacy), efficiency and confidence. |

Technology Once we
understand concepts and procedures (for example: finding mean, median and mode,
graphing equations, or using the quadratic formula), we use technology to do more of the
"number crunching" so that we can practice critical thinking. We use Graphing
Calculators (here's one you can download
for your PC), Spreadsheet applications (Excel, MS Works, ClarisWorks, they
are all fine), Geometer's Sketchpad and Stella to investigate and model
algebraic problems and their
solutions. And don't forget Math Gizmos! |
