Chapter 3

Maria, what is it? Ben asked concerned, placing his free hand on his hip.

Just come over, now! Please! Maria said hastily and hung up.

Whats going on? Ben muttered under his breath as he rejoined Meg on the veranda.

Who was it? Meg inquired.

Maria. She wants me to come over. She sounded pretty upset, Ben took Meg in his arms. I want you to go with me. I want us to face everything in life together, Meg.

Awe, Ben. Meg smiled at her husband. You say the sweetest things. Sure Ill go with you. I want to help Maria too.

Ben and Meg arrived at the Mission and knocked on Marias door. Hurriedly she ran over to the door, swinging it open. Ben! Maria smiled when she saw him but that smile quickly dropped from her face when she noticed Meg. Oh, Meg... hi. Maria gave Meg a what are you doing here look. Nervously she bit her lower lip and after a couple moments she said, Come in.

Whats going on Maria? Are you okay? Ben asked once they were inside.

Maria replied in a bit of a snippy tone, I really need to talk to you, Ben.

Sensing the tension Meg offered, I can step outside for a...

No, no, no, Ben interrupted. Maria, Meg and I are both here to help you. Anything you want to say to me you can say in front of Meg as well.

Maria sighed. Oh alright, she said disgustedly. After a slight hesitation she spoke. I keep having this same dream over and over. Its about the night I disappeared... She went on to explain in detail her recurring dream. Ben, what could this mean? Who could have pulled me out of the ocean?

Ben ran his fingers through his hair, Honestly I dont know. I searched quite extensively for you that night, and for so long afterwards.

How... how am I ever going to remember? Maria started to panic.

Hey, now just calm down. Ben said comfortingly. Maybe you should try hypnosis again.

Why? It didnt work before, Maria snapped.

Meg replied, Maria, it might work if you keep trying.

Oh, I dont know what to do anymore! she said exasperated.

Megs right, Maria. You just need to keep trying. Dont give up... and were both here to help you, Ben said reassuringly.

But... Maria tried to protest.

Ben interrupted her, You really should give it another try. What can it hurt?

Well, okay, Maria agreed reluctantly. Ill make an appointment.

Good, After several minutes of uneasy silence Ben said, Meg and I should be going. Can we do anything for you before we leave?

Um, no. Thanks. Thank you, both... for coming over, Maria replied politely. Ill let you know what happens. She forced a smile.

Alright then, Ben gave her a quick hug. Well see you later.

I cant tell them what else I remember. I just cant! Maria muttered aloud after they left. But I have to talk to someone... Annie! I need to see Annie. She collected her purse and rushed out the door.
