KLIS

The Turkish forces were very strong but did not succeded to put the ihabitants of Klis on their knees. After several months they had cut it off from land and sea and captured the fortress in 1537.The Uskoci(so called the Klis army) retreated to Senj,a place situated on the middle of the northern part of the Adriatic Coast.Klis was several times in Turkish hands until it became Venetians in 1648.

The fortress of Klis is very interesting in her building project. It has three powerful rings of walls. The Turks built a mosque inside of fortress, but later it turned to church.Nowdays the fortress is dilapidated but the people tried to renew it.It has a wonderful view from top to beautiful downtown Split and nearby irelands Bratch and Sholta.Leftview of fortress points to Mount Mosor and rightview to Mount Kozjak
