FIRST PROSTHESIS

This is the first prosthesis generally made for
the first American president -George Washing-
-ton.This in the fact is the copy of the real one
that was stolen in 1981. from Smithsonian institute.The reason was probably a great quantity of gold used to make it.

The artificial dentures had been already made at Ethrur time,4.B.C.After the crash of Roman Empire the prosthesis have not been made in Europe,but thanks to the Arabian dentists the art of making them has not been forgotten.It begins in Europe during Renaissance.
The French were the greatest artists.They gave the knowledge of making them to John Grinwood,one of the four brothers Grinwood,all dentists.
John opened his dentistry office in N.Y.and widely advertised how he can make the teeth not different from right ones.He made the denture for the first American president

But after he has begun to use the artificial teeth the President told to Grinwood that it seemed to him ,the teeth were like made of wood.Grinwood answered that he couldn't
do anything if the president wouldn't stop drinking wine.Wine made the teeth so dark,he said.
The prosthesis so changed the look of the face of the president.It can be clearly seen at the
portrait of George W. made by an artist Gilbert Stewart in 1796.It is kept today in White
House.This portrait is often called "The portrait of the hero with spoiled teeth".
Look at the portrait above.You can see the sirious look of the face,mouth shut in pain.
The President suffered of parodonthosis,and just after he was thirty years old he lost all
his teeth.He smiled very rarely and during everyday use of that denture he hardly could
pronounce "S"
The body of President denture was made of gold while upper teeth were made of teeth
of hypopothamus and lower were made of ivory.
That was only one of more prosthesis that President used to carry in his mouth.
First porcelain teeth were made in early 19.century by Italian Giuseppeangello Tonci
living in Paris.To the body of prosthesis made of gold or platina he put the the teeth for
the first time made of baked porcelain.
