About Us

The Khohlo-Ntso Pony-Trekking Association is a community cooperative, managed by and for Basotho who were born and raised in the area.  It was established in 1994 as the tourist's compliment to the spectacular Katse Dam (185m), the largest in Africa of its kind.  Beautifully situated in the Maluti mountain range, in the heart of Lesotho, the area is surrounded by pristine pasturelands and rural villages, whose inhabitants still adhere to the traditional Basotho customs of their ancestors.  Nevertheless, the area is very accessible, linked to the lowlands by a first-class tar road.  As such, the Khohlo-Ntso Pony-Trekking Association conveniently offers you a unique opportunity to glimpse Basotho culture and countryside in all its beauty, atop the legendary Basotho Pony.

We offer six different treks, ranging from a 2hr.-long tour of Chief Katse's former home, to fully catered 3day 2night journeys into the heart of the Maluti Mountains. (See Booking and Rates.)

What can you expect?  Enjoy our performances of traditional singing and dancing!  Feast on a plate of tasty Basotho food!  Sleep in traditional thatched rondavels!  Let the extremely strong and sure-footed Basotho Pony take you through mountain villages to some of our many sites of historical and natural interest, such as San paintings, caves, and waterfalls!  Or catch awesome views of the surrounding mountains from nearby peaks!

Curious?  See our Virtual Pony Trek to experience first-hand our overnight trek to Khopung Waterfall!
