Math with Ms. Kolkmeier
Math in Everyday Life
This week we will be studying the way in which
we use our basic mathematical skills in our everyday life. Such examples include when visiting the bookstore
to buy pencils, notebooks, etc., and also when we use the clock to figure out
how long we need to do a project, or what time we need to be somewhere.
By the end of this week, all students will
be secure in their abilities to use these basic mathematical processes for any
situation in life, whether it is going to the bookstore, or finding the time on
a clock. Students should also be able to
find other uses of addition, subtraction, etc. in their lives as well.

many hours must he work to earn $20?
- Also for homework,
students should visit the following websites and work on the activities
as noted:
http://www.webmath.com
–visit
the coins and counting activity and use this to do the problems we did in
class today

- Today in class we will
discuss the website, http://www.webmath.com, visited last
night, and we will visit it together using the projector. We will work with the worksheet
provided.
- We will watch a
Microsoft Windows Video as an example of how to do the grocery store
project today.
- Students will be instructed

is due Thursday, and is to be presented to the class.
- Finally for today, we
will review the information we discovered at http://www.webmath.com/k8time.html,
and we will discuss it’s relevance to the basic mathematical concepts we
have been discussing.
- For homework, continue
working on the projects due for Thursday and Friday
- Also, visit the
following sites and do the activities suggested:
- A worksheet on
counting money, complete
the worksheet by clicking on the “counting money” link on the right hand
