| Yule or the winter solstice is the longest night of the year and the night when light finaly overcomes the dark to bring about the approach of spring. It is on this night that the God is reborn of the Goddess. Yule is a time of birth and new beginnings so now is the time to start new projects or to set about bringing new things into your life. It is traditional on this night to burn a yule log which should be taken from a tree yourself or given to you by a friend but never bought. The yule log should be lit using a piece of last years and should be left burning all night and left to smolder for twelve days before being put out. Traditionally ash is the wood used for the yule log but pine can also be used as it represents the Goddess. Holly and mistletoe are used to decorate the home in order to invite the nature spirits in to join the celebrations. |
