|
Samhain is the first sabbat in the witches year and so is the witches new year. Samhain is one of the two "spirit nights" the other is Beltane. These nights are an interval when the veil between the living world and that of the dead is at it's thinest. Communication with the dead and spirit worlds are easy at thistime because of this Samhain is a time for remembering those that have passed on. It is traditional on this night to leave food offerings outside for the "wandering dead" or to lay extra places
at your table for each loved one who has passed away during that year along with white candles at the windows to guide them home. Pumpkins and turnips can be hollowed and carved into protective spirits to guard from the magick and chaos of the night.
The god is believed to die on this night in order to be reborn from the goddess at Yule and so Samhain is a time to celebrate the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. |
