| The censer is an incense burner. It can be an ornate brass burner that hangs froms chains or a simple bowl or seashell. It is used to hold smouldering incense during spells and rites, to burn incense that is offered to a deity or to invoke the spirits of the air. It is also used to cleanse the area you are working in and can be used to purify the home in a yearly house cleansing ritual, traditionally done at spring. If you sit watching the smoke curl and twist while breathing slowly it can help you into an altered state of consciousness.
