A Day at the Kastro |
This is the castle in Mytilene. We could see it from our balcony and from the beach, so Kara and I decided to explore. Getting in cost only 1euro because we're students, so we went crazy climbing around. |

If you compare this picture to the first one, you can see the little hole we're sitting in, directly under the flag. We experimented with the timer on Kara's camera, and it turned out quite well! Aren't we cute? |

Looking down from the hole we were sitting in, this is the front of the castle. Super old and cool! |

This was taken directly down from the hole we were sitting in. Sweet. Its a bit overgrown, due to years of disuse after the Venetians and Turks left Greece alone.. but its super cool. Makes you wish time travel was a reality, to see a castle in its heyday, full of people all dressed up and coolness.. oh well. |

Speaking of overgrown... giant field of poppies! I want to grow poppies when I get a house, hopefully the neighbors won't think I'm all hopped up on opium. We picked a few and pressed them into our travel journals. |

This is the backside of the castle, peeking down into the back harbor of Mytilene. |

The main harbor and downtown of Mytilene, as seen from the Kastro. |

As I said, we climbed all over. This is the wall seen in the first picture, but from the other side. |

Yay! Climbing on walls of castles is fun!! |

Just for orientation- see the flag? And look at that skinny ledge we had to walk on to get to the flag for our picture! and see that dropoff? Awesome! |

This is the Venetian part of the Kastro. It was barred off, but I still got a picture. Sweet. |
