Freak
out. An appropriate term to describe me on this very wet evening.
Up
until today, I very much walked around thinking that I had the invisibility that
comes with anonymity. Well so much for being just another face in the crowd…
While walking around KL Plaza today taking pictures for my city guide column, this strange person (as with all weirdo looking males in this city) walked by and stopped to say hi to me and Isabell. We ignored, as one normally would.
We then walked to Starhill where I spent a good 45 mins or so taking pictures along the way. After that, we walked over to Jalan Walter Grenier to take pictures of music exchange and excessive records. While standing there snapping away, someone from behind asks in a weird voice, “Are you from the photo studio over there?” A very sad attempt to create conversation. Isabell, being even more freaked now that it’s the same guy from KL Plaza, blurted a “No” and ran off to Music Exchange. The weirdo walked off quickly, turning back every two steps to look at us in an expression used by comic villains to evade superhero’s. By now I was completely freaked out because I know I have seen this person somewhere before and he’s prolly asked me the same thing before. It’s a bit too real to be déjà vu.
We run to Lot 10 for cover, as the drizzle becomes rain and spent another good 30 mins eating and window-shopping. Seeing that the rain wasn’t going to stop, we walked took the overhead bridge to Sungei Wang for more shopping.
As we got out I figured I’d go over to Zoo Body Art to see if Cherry was there to help me plan my next piercing. Realising that Cherry wasn’t in the studio, I stayed outside looking at jewellery in the display case. And then again, out of nowhere, the same weird voice popped up right behind me saying “Hey, it’s you two again! Hi!” I turned around and saw the same weirdo. Standing there with his smallish frame, dorky cap on head, scraggly polo t-shirt, and his bag of something. Before I could look away, Isabell was already dragging me into the studio, fast as hell. We ran right into the piercing room, behind the double doors, and asked Frankie to let us hide in there first. And Specs the tattoo artist started looking out for the weirdo, walked out to hunt for him. He then asked us to go take a walk around and try to lure him back to the studio where he and Frankie can have a go at him…in the confines of the piercing room. And lure we did, unfortunately the fish didn’t take the bait. We walked back to the studio and sat for a while and then ran off to where me mum was waiting. *Phew*.
I cancelled my shoot at Changkat BB tonight because suddenly I don’t have the courage to walk around KL on my own as I normally do, day or night. And to think I still have so many pictures to take! What am I going to do now? Even the flip knife I carry in my bag topped with a minute amount of kickboxing seems completely useless now. And who is going to accompany me during my assignments when Joon leaves??? *WAIL!!!*
At
this point there’s two options, hire a bodyguard or change my job. None of
which seems sensible at all!
