    Baule Mask from Museum Shop

    Baule Mask Plaque
    SKU: MAOSC0002
    National Museums of France
    $104.00
This stunning bas-relief plaque is a reproduction of a 19th-century
African mask in the collection of the Muse
national des Arts d'Afrique et d'Ocanie, Paris.
The mask probably depicts an ancestor or a village
chieftain, and was most likely given a place of honor
in a dwelling. This reproduction is carefully
crafted in resin to capture the surface variations,
finely carved details, and coloration of the original.
    It is ready to hang.

Artists of the Baule people, of the upper Ivory Coast,
often decorated their doors and shutters with carvings
painted with natural pigments. Surrounding themselves
with art, they were also fond of embellishing useful
everyday objects like spoons, combs, and mallets
    with decorative carvings.
    17.3" x 8.3" x .6"
Your purchase supports the exhibits and programs
of the Muse des Arts d'Afrique et d'Ocanie.
