Never leave the house wearing tracksuit pants (a.k.a. sweat pants). Tracksuit pants are for people who have given up on life. Do you see anyone else at the gym wearing these?
Sneakers are for the gym only.
Don't wear sunglasses inside - unless you believe that you're a vampire or the victim of domestic violence!
If you’re not going to wear it again – toss it.
Organise your wardrobe into long dresses, skirts, pants, suits, and shirts. If you’re over 25 dump the short dresses.
If you have a large wardrobe, organise things each season so they are easier to access. Nobody wants to spend cold mornings half naked hunting past Summer weight clothing.
You should only dryclean when necessary. When items are drycleaned excessively the material will start to shine and possibly wear out sooner. Dryclean items mid season and end of season before storing them for the next year.
Keep your shoes tidy. Have them reheeled before they wear past the rubber – otherwise they will cost more to rebuild.
Your father was right – you should polish your shoes, they much better, and it will look like you care about your appearance.
Now you should have thrown out some items – you are now ready to shop.
Take a brutally honest friend.
Get to know what your figure suits before you make any purchases.
If you think you’ll look good in it – don’t buy it.
If you know you look good in it – buy it.
If you unsure – forget it.
Never buy something too small in the hope you'll one day miraculously shrink!
The opposite will happen guaranteed.
When buying a suit don’t even try to save money. You can save money on tops and shirts – but a good suit can last you up to five years (presuming you don’t wear it everyday).
Try to ensure you have always got staple items to mix and match with.
Some staple items are:
Fine Black wool polo for Winter
Smart fitted White shirt for Summer
Classic Black suit
Long classic wool coat
Comfortable pants who can wear with a polo neck or shirt
A black dress
A black skirt
Don’t own anything you wouldn't be caught dead answering the door in. Really – what’s the point?
Don't spend a huge amount on an outfit you will only wear one season... unless you can afford it!
If you’re over 17 EVERYONE looks good in Black.
Don’t kid yourself – Navy is not the new Black. Navy is for the creatively retarded.
Black goes with everything – except Navy.
Brown can look good on some redheads and blondes. But don’t overkill it.
Simple style is always best. This is especially true for earrings!
When adding an accessory to an ensemble, pick up on one colour out to emphasize.
The essential items are:
A classic Black leather handbag – try to keep it as small as possible
Black leather gloves
A smart scarf or 2
And once or twice a year you could purchase a fun handbag – but don’t spend too much money on it because you’ll get tired of it (hopefully before the trend passes, ie animal prints). This also goes for some scarfs.
Hats look fab for a special occassion such as weddings, christenings and race
days.
You can never have too many pairs of black boots or stockings
No short kilts !
Never wear short skirts without stockings to work - it gives you unprofessional
image.
How do I tell if a skirt is too short?
Hold your arms straight down by your sides. If you skirt hem is shorter than
your index finger the skirt is too short.
