Standards
The Standards for this WebQuest are based on Louisiana Standards and Benchmarks. This WebQuest was designed to incorporate the Science and Social Studies curriculums . To view the Standards for this WebQuest, click the Standards link (to the left) . To view the entire list of Louisiana Standards, go to the Louisiana Department of Education or Making Connections. Making Connections is a standards-based, technology-rich curriculum project of the Louisiana Center for Educational Technology (LCET). Through this site, teachers can access "a one stop shop" for instructional materials that enhance teaching, learning, and technology opportunities in Louisiana's K-12 schools.
1. It is suggested that the teacher group the students into legal teams. Once the teams have been picked, assign each team member with a job. Some job suggestions are*:

2. While links are provided in the Process section, it is suggested that the students go to additional sites for information. Have the students use the links on Research Page to search for answers to the Guide Sheet.
3. Before the students are assigned their appropriate tasks, make sure every student knows how to use a search engine. A short lesson on how to use search engines may be needed.
Mock Trial/Presentation
The lesson calls for a the students to present his/her findings at a trial. While it is not required, the teacher may decide to put on a mock trial. A link has been provided that instructs the teacher how to put on a mock trial. If a mock trial is not used, then the teacher can act a judge and each team can present their findings. Rubrics have been provided to grade each presentations.
Guide to Conducting Mock Trials
This lesson is designed to be used in Science and Social Studies classes. It could be used by students in grades 7-10.
Prior to this WebQuest, the students should have a working knowledge of PowerPoint and MS Word. In addition, the students should be coached on public speaking and giving an oral presentation. The following links are provided on the Student Page to help in these endeavors.
