Almora
Almora faces the mighty Trishul and Nanda Devi massif. Almora is famous
for her Copper and Brass hand crafted utensils and the savory Bal
Mithai. It has a zoo and quaint Mussurie. Almora is just 10 Minutes from
Kasaar Jungle Resort nearby is the famous Chatai Temple. Almora is
extremely picturesque.
Bageshwar
About an hour and a half away (68 kms) is Bageshwar. The drive is
over two ranges, with a descent into into the valley of the river Saryu
that flews by the town. The pine and oak trees grew scattered. Ancient
Temples are to be seen. You can angle for the Masheer, picnic paddle and
watch the snow crested peaks. Bageshwar is at an altitude of 1300 mtrs. |

Baijnath
Famous for her ancient temples, Baijnath is well wooded. The drive
is 2 hours (80 kms), down to 1500 mtrs.
Binsar
A wild life sanctuary amidst thick temperature forest. Barking Deer,
Leopard, Himalayan Bear, Wild Board, Sambar live here. Chances of
spotting animals are good if you move quietly. Binsar is at 2300 meters,
an hour and a bit over (30 kms) away.
Binsar to Jageshwar Walk
You leave for Binsar after breakfast (0900 hrs). Your car return
after dropping you, and continues to Jageshwar to spread your picnic
lunch as you arrive.

The descent is from 2300 meters to 1800 meters over a distance of 11
kms. The more active cover it in an hour and a half, but we suggest two
and a half to enjoy the walk. The walk is through the Binsar Sanctuary
into the forest around Jageshwar. Well wooded, you have good chances of
spotting Jungle Fowl, Leopard and barking Deer. If you are fortunate you
may come across the Himalayan Bear and Sambar. Please do follow the
instructions of your guide.

Chokori
Chokori is a quaint town of tea estates. Located a top a ridge at
1800 meters, the drive is over 2 ours (50 kms), via Jageshwar, which you
actually by-pass at a distance of 4 kms. The vegetation is Oak and Pine.
Chokori affords excellent walks.
Jageshwar
Jageshwar is famous for her temples set amidst tall deodar and Pine
Forests. Over an hour (30 kms) from Almora, you may even come across the
Himalayan Bear in the forests. Jageshwar is very scenic, and an ideal
location for short ambles. It is at altitude of 1800 meters.
Kausani
Kausani offers a good view of the Himalayas. The area is dotted with
Pine, Oak and Deodar. An hour and a half (50 kms) away, it is at an
altitude of 1700 meters.
Kosi
Kosi is a small town-ship about 10 kms away, at an altitude of 1450
meters. You can |

reach in little over 30 minutes, and try for the masher
locating your own ideal picnic spot for lunch at the river bank of Kosi.
Mukteshwar
Mukteshwar and Sona Pani offer par excellent views of the Himalayan
peaks. A hot lunch can be arranged in apple orchards at Sargakhet. Mukteshwar is at an altitude of 2200 meters.

Nainital
Possibly the most popular hill station in north India, Nainital is just
2 hours away (70 kms). A boat ride on the lake and a pony ride around it
are normal tourist attractions. China Peak, best reached on pony back
offers a lovely view of the snows. The local candle craft is of
interest.
Ranikhet
Ranikhet has lovely walks through tall Deodar forests. You can visit the
local Bazaar and temples, and get a different perspective of the
Himalayan Peaks from here. The drive is a little over an hour (48
kms), and enroute you could try your hand at fishing

in the Kosi river.
Ranikhet is located at an altitude of 1850 meters.
Saattal
Saattal is one of the less frequented lakes around Nainital. The drive
takes about two and a half hours (67 kms). Fishing is possible with
permission taken in advance. The area is thickly wooded. A unique Camp
provides hot lunch, camp style. You can do Boating, Kayaking,
Cycling, Bathe under a water fall in the deep woods, take a walk, lounge
in a hammock, or take a dip in the lake. Saattal is at an altitude of
1350 meters.
