Welcome to the Buckingham's

So many ideas - what do you think this kitchen will actually end up looking like?

Taken from Planning a Better Kitchen by Creative Homeowner PressI found these great cabinets in a wonderful book I picked up at Lowe's. I want them! Jeff does not - we'll see what happens. I think that he should just finish what he has started, we should get a new counter top & sink and make more glass front cabinets. Below I will publish some pictures of our kitchen as it was when we moved in and then what Jeff has done so far. He stopped whenTaken from Planning a Better Kitchen by Creative Homeowner Press he lost inspiration and never picked it up again. Another idea I saw with the glass front cabinets was using curtains in the door. I love that too. Pink & green delights me, it is a happy healthy combination and I use it ALL over my house. I would love to have these pink cabinets. We will see. Jeff & I also discussed making our own cabinet doors and using stained or beveled glass. I checked out the price of the doors I want and they run about $200 each! I think we may take up making and selling cabinet doors!

Speaking of costs - the 3 hole porcelain sink I want - $600! Can you imagine? I will either compromise (there is a two sink, round model I like) & I will also check out the Kohler seconds store here in Tampa. One thing I am having a hard time dealing with is what will I want to have in my cabinets - what options. I hate deep cabinets, I hate drawers, I hate clutter. But realistically, I will not live here forever (that beach home in Naples is down there waiting for me, somewhere!) and someone else may come in here and wonder why I don't have more storage, why I don't have more drawers. So I may concede and have more than one drawer for cutlery. We saw a fold downTaken from Planning a Better Kitchen by Creative Homeowner Press knife holder w/cutting board that I am interested in, especially with a new grandson on the way. We have lots of knifes, expensive chef type (Jeff had been a chef (28 years cooking in restaurants) before quitting and doing construction full time) and they are Jeff's pride. But where would we put that? Oh, it gets more confusing. All these pictures were borrowed from Planning A Better Kitchen by Creative Homeowner Press. You can click on any of the graphics to get to Amazon Books and buy it from them or go to Lowe's where I bought it, or just look around for it. It is a really good book and if you are bookandcandle.gif (14478 bytes)planning a kitchen you may want to consider investing in it. If you are interested in more decorator books that I like, please go to my book page and see my recommendations. As I do more projects I will be referencing more books. One book I would like to buy and haven't yet, only as a reference book is by the same publisher, Creative Homeowner Press and it's title is Choosing a Color Scheme. The one thing I see wrong with ordering them from Amazon Books is that they may be dated. The copy right on my Planning a Better Kitchen is 1997, where the one at Amazon is 1992. So BE WARNED, maybe go to Lowe's and buy it. Another great place to get reference books is your local LIBRARY. Try it - you'll be surprised!

Well guys this weekend is a long one & I may be spending it at the hardware store so who knows what NEW ideas I will come up with. But remember, until it is set in mortar it isn't set! That's what planning is all about. Look below tosee my kitchen before & after pixs, remember that those that are not real photos on here, will be one day, so check back often!(kb - 5/23/98)

Here is what it looked like when we moved in (we cleaned a little already Ouch! Jeff already has the marble laid out for the countertop. Here is Jeff installing the dishholder over the sink. He lots his inspiration & never finished the kitchen - which is why we are going to do it now!
