Carmack's Top 10 Movies of 2004
4. Spiderman 2
I wasn't a big fan of the first Spider-Man movie, but I can forgive its flaws simply on the basis that its sequel was absoulutely amazing from start to finish. Director Sam Raimi and his star Tobey Maguire have not only made Spider-Man more of a person, with problems that can relate anyone watching the film, but have also placed him in what is not only the best comic-book movie ever made, but also a film that manages to be touching and action packed at the same time. Here's to hoping the third film can follow up this fantastic installment.
3.Kill Bill, Vol. 2
Quentin Tarintino not only tops his first film, but also makes his first nearly flawless film since 1994's heaven-sent Pulp Fiction. In glaring contrast to the video-game/popcorn action movie style  of Volume 1, QT's Vol. 2 takes more time telling its story and fleshing out its characters, yet still manages to kick alot of ass. David Carradinne gives the performance of his career, while Uma Thurman silences her critics by giving a potrayal of "The Bride" that's just as emotionally deep as any "serious" role an actress can take on.
2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Jim Carey leads a cast of actors that each give the best work of their careers in this bizarre romantic comedy that manages to be touching, innovative, intelligent, sarcastically dark, and optimistic at the same time. Credit the brilliant screenwritter Charlie Kaufman, and also the avant-garde genius of Michel Gondry, for giving the film its unusual but memorable style, and expect this film to grow and get better as the years go by. It's already an instant classic.
