| 1. The Aviator | ||||||||||||
| Easily the most entertaining and powerful movie of the year, made with decidedly old-fashioned yet riveting style by legendary director Martin Scorsese, this film blew me away like no other. It has unbeatable craftmanship, the best performance yet by the underrated Leonardo DiCaprio, and works by managing to capture the tragic insanity of its subject, Howard Hughes, without compromising the amazing genius of what he accomplished. After a year of mediocre to crap movies, this one really took flight. This movie represents why we go to the movies. Jonathan Carmack |
