Here's my next effort of Wolfy's article that appeared on www.overclockers.com.au
I used some leftover Jarrah from the home I'm building to house the new 20x4 LCD.

I couldn't wait to get it going so I only put on one coat of satin estapol.

Using a router I was able to recess the LCD behind about 1 - 2mm of the timber.
A couple of brackets to balance the contraption and hold the parallel cable in
place to relieve strain on the soldered connections.

I soldered the trimpot for contrast directly to the circuit board. To get power to the LCD without
running extra cables, I used the red with white stripe for the +5 volts and the black with white
stripe for the 0 volts. These were spare wires in the printer cable. As you can see above
I still haven't cut the rest of the unused wires off. Just tucked them out of harms way. :)

Here I just spliced into the red and black wires to get the 5 volts required,

used a 3.5mm ( aka 1/8 ) mono phono socket to get power to the outside world.

This 3.5mm ( aka 1/8 ) plug was then connected to the red/white & black/white,
which were unsoldered from the D25 plug. A lug had broken off the shell housing,
so I used the opening to feed the power out to the plug.

I would like to thank Wolfy again for his article that inspired me to do this.
Mind you, my wife thinks I'm nuts.
