Wednesday:So Helen from the dance studio has worked her magicyet again and somehow convinced Andy and I to take asecond private hour of class every week. Now I'mdancing about 6 hours a week. I swear, this studio istaking over my life . . . Helen can be veryconvincing! It's kind of funny, because Joey andHelen are kind of using Andy and I as a marketing tool(ie "Oh look at them, she's only been dancing for 6months, and he's only been dancing for 4 months; c'monand give it a try) and actually so far it's working. Several people who have seen us practise have signedup for classes. Helen also wants to use us to promotethe studio in other places as well, like clubopenings, special events, so on. And all of thishappened basically because Andy has a crush on me andwanted an excuse to spend extra time with me! Ha! |

Thursday:No class today-- it's Sports Day! Yes, even growncollege students still have to do really lame thingslike forced physical activity. Korea is so weirdabout stuff like this sometimes. However, I'm notcomplaining, I get the day off! Yes!Oh wait, not entirely . . . I swear, every time Ithink I have free time, the phone rings and it'szapped away from me in a matter of minutes. A coupleof days ago, the lead singer from St. John the Gambler(Garan's other band) called me and asked if I couldrecord some backing vocals on his solo album. So wemet at his apartment today to practise a little. Thestuff is pretty straight forward folky kind of stuff, and it should be fun and easy to do the recording onSunday. It's always kind of funny working withmusicians who aren't really musicians-- ie can't readmusic, don't know much technique, so on. It makescommunication kind of difficult. |

Friday:Bamboo Wife may have a new keyboard player! Sang Woncurrently plays in another band that's breaking upwhen the guitarist goes home in a month, so we'retrying to woo him into our band. Sang Won studiedwith a jazz piano teacher that I know locally (funnyenough, she also knows some of my good friends in NewYork). This is kind of funny too-- Sang Won knows abunch of students at PaekChe, so he had already hearda lot about me. How much do my students gossip aboutmy personal life!? There's certainly no flying underthe radar in this country . . .After band practise, we all went for some food anddrinks at a little Korean place in Itaewon. Marisolcame out to meet us, which was nice, since I hadn'tseen her for awhile, and we all ended up at Garan'splace drinking baeksaeju (Korean rice wine). In fact,it got so late that I just ended up crashing atGaran's place. |
