Week 24 (Aug 7th to Aug 13th)
Sunday Aug 7th, Since every British person I've ever met is a total soccer fanatic (or excuse me, football), Jamie included, I found myself being dragged to a Korea-Japan soccer match tonight. It was actually quite a bit of fun. The fans were really loud, and from what I could tell, it was a well-played game. Japan won 1-0, but hey, I'm still going through Japan withdrawal, so I wasn't too too torn up about it!
Thursday Aug 11th, So we've been getting ready for our gig all week at Commune, and tonight, in the middle of one of our practise sessions, the guy from Commune called and asked us if we could move our gig to next Saturday instead! Argh . . . even clubs here are run in complete Korean style. At home, a bar would be booked at least a month in advance, but here, somehow everything manages to work out at the last minute. It's for the best anyway, cause I've developed a really ugly cough, and Mike has been flaking on us just about every night this week, so we haven't even met with him yet. (We're planning on doing the same thing we did last time, one set with Mike and one set with Evan. Of course, Mike is relatively pissed off about this, and is being a big baby). So at least now we have an extra week to get our stuff together
Friday Aug 12th, I received some pretty bad news from home today, that was slightly unexpected. My grandfather died today in Toronto. It was sudden for me, because I forgot to check my email yesterday, and when I checked today, I found out that he had had a bad fall and was in the hospital. By the end of the work day today, I received an email from Mom saying that he had died. It's really hard to be here when so much is going on at home. But Grandpa and I had a good goodbye before I left. He seemed to have some sense that he wasn't going to make it through the year, so he made sure to see me before I left Canada. Other things I've learned today: Korean cold medicine is infinitely stronger than North American cold medicine, and should not be mixed with any alcohol, not even one drink (unless you for some reason have the urge to throw up after one rum and coke!)
Saturday Aug 13th, My friend Katie is going back to Wales on Tuesday. So tonight was one of her many going-away celebrations. It was the kind of night that you can't pull off too often, cause I'm sure that I partied at least a couple months off of my life tonight! It was a dancing til 6am when they kick you out of the club, going for breakfast and drinking soju with your galbi and getting home at 9am kind of night. I didn't even make it all the way home, I ended up crashing on Katie and Charlotte's couch for a couple of hours. Then we all rolled out of bed around 2pm on Sunday afternoon, and went to a DVD room for not even 1 movie, but 2 movies. These British girls are crazy, they just go and go and go! Canadians are pretty wimpy in comparison to all these party-aholic Korean and Brits!
