Sunday June 26th,
On Sunday nights, Commune shows free movies on a projector. This week it was Old Boy, which is a really significant Korean movie. It has won a ton of awards, and I've been dying to see it, so I wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to see it for free with English subtitles. It was one of the most intense movies I've ever seen. If you can get your hands on it back home, I highly reccomend it.

Tuesday June 28th, We're having a little trouble with band stuff. The problem is mainly that Mike is not the strongest player, and is having a really hard time learning the new material that Jason and I want to do, plus he has a tendency to fall apart when we perform. Jason and I don't really know what to do about it, cause we want to move forward, but Mike is really holding us back right now. |

Wednesday June 29th, Today was the first rehearsal of the funk project. It wasn't so much a rehearsal as a listening session, but
I can tell that the project is going to work out really well. The players are a lot stronger than I thought-- it's kind of like we took all of the all-stars from each of the local bands and put them into one mega funk project. We're going to do all the funk and disco standards first, and then we're going to start working on some more obscure stuff, so I think that we're all on the same page for this
project. After the rehearsal, we went back to Commune to catch a little bit of the open mic night. It was way too late a night for a school night, but it was well worth it.

Friday July 1st, Happy Canada Day!!!!!!! I've never been overly patriotic, but I went all out today-- Canada t-shirt, making my kids colour Canada flags and learn the national anthem, etc. We had a quick jam tonight and then we headed downtown to celebrate with all the other Canadians in Daegu-- Commune had a big party for the Canucks that included cheap Canadian beer and Canadian Club. Unfortunately I missed most of it-- we had a lot of drinks before we even left for downtown, and Jason ended up getting kind of sick, and I ended up having to take him back to Chilgok. By the time I got back downtown, most people had already left. |
