Sunday June 19th,
This is the first day I've had to myself in ages! I've been going out so much lately that I haven't even had time to clean my apartment, much less have a Kari day. I did absolutely nothing today, and I enjoyed every last second of it!

Monday June 20th, I'm really looking forward to this week being one of recuperation. We've being going hard, at work and otherwise for about 6 weeks straight now, and I think all of us need a break! Jason, Evan and Carey have to plan one more open class for the afternoon (we have a couple special afternoon classes that come every day, none of which I teach), but fortunately, I'm off the hook, and I can just chill out. This is one of the first nights in a really long time that I've been able to just stay at home and relax (and actually clean my apartment for once-- it has resembled a disaster zone for awhile now, especially after my air-conditioning unit was installed. There was sawdust absolutely everywhere). |

Wednesday June 22nd, I had my first date with Jamie tonight. We went to a really good Italian restaurant downtown. The guy who
owns it speaks really good English, and he actually has menus in English too, which is always a bonus here. They have a "design your own pasta" page where you just check off what you want instead of trying to tell someone who probably won't understand my accent.
After dinner we headed over to Commune for the open mic night, not to play this time, but just to hang out. It's funny how some things end up being exactly the same as at home. Wednesdays in Toronto were always spent at the Rex watching Exitman, and hanging with that group of friends. And it seems now that I've got a new Wednesday hang with new friends. I just love the way Commune has become my Daegu "Rex". As far as the date went, I had a great time, and I might consider hanging onto this one for awhile!

Friday June 24th, We've really been taking it easy this week. We skipped our Tuesday jam, and we're also skipping tonight's regular jam. I know it's been less than a week, but I really want to play! In other news, the funk project is finally getting off the ground. We've started sending song lists and what not back and forth via email, so I may get together with a new group for a jam within the next week or so. I like the idea of having a couple of completely different projects to work on. Even if I don't get to do jazz per se, at least I'm getting to do a variety of other styles |

Saturday June 25th, I finally made it over to the travel agent, and my ticket to Tokyo is presently in my hands! The travel agent that was reccomended to me speaks incredible English, and he managed to get me a return flight that is more than $200 cheaper than what I saw on the internet. The one catch is that it leaves out of Busan, but by the KTX train, I'll be at the airport in less than an hour from here. I'm so excited that the trip is finally in the works-- in approximately one month, I'll be tearing up Japan with Stephanie (my former co-worker and current friend from Toronto). After I picked up my tickets, I met Jamie and his best friend Alison (she is the girl that Evan is dating) for a couple drinks, and then we headed over to a rooftop barbecue down in Jamie's neighbourhood. Jamie
lives in Siji, which is south of downtown (in other words, as far as you can get from Chilgok, my suburb, while remaining in Daegu!). A lot of foreigners live in this neighbourhood. The barbecue was a going away party for two of Jamie's good friends Paul and Anna Marie. Paul is from Manchester, and Anna Marie is from New Zealand. They are actually leaving in kind of a hurry, because Anna Marie is 5 months pregnant, and if they wait any longer, she won't be allowed to fly. I wonder what the prenatal care is like here . .. In any case, Paul is moving his entire life to New Zealand, at least for the time being because they both feel that it's very important for Anna Marie to have her mother around when she's getting ready for the baby. It never ceases to amaze me how many incredible stories there are around here!
