Feng Shui at Work

To encourage success in your career, you need to examine your work space.  You may have an entire off ice to yourself, or share space with several other people.  You may have your work area somewhere inside a large factory.  Whatever area you define as your work space, it needs to be assessed.  You should pay as much attention to the layout of your office as you do to the kitchen, bedroom, sitting room or garden.  The first and most important thing is to make sure that you don't sit with your back to a door.  You can't relax and concentrate on work if you can't see who is coming and going behind you.  So start by positioning the desk somewhere you can see the door (or doors).

In the past it was believed that the desk should be on either a north/south or east/west axis for best results.  The ancients believed that you are more motivates to succeed when your desk faces north.  You will feel more relaxed and at ease, however, when your desk faces south.  If it faces east, you will be dynamic and inspirational.  Facing west makes you more creative and full of good ideas.

As with your rooms at home, make your office as light and bright as you can.  Bring any dark corner's into the room using lights or mirrors, and soften any sharp corners which jut into the room using plants or some other objects.

Your desk should always be neat and tidy, with a minimum of clutter.  File papers and documents put your hole puncher and stapler in a drawer, and free up some space on the desktop.  If you want your working life to be clear and focused, set yourself an example with your desk.  The size of your desk, as well as the size of your office, indicated your power and status in the firm.  You will progress faster in your career if your desk is larger than usual for your particular job.
