Feng Shui at Home

Before allocating a room to a location in your home, think about the activities that will take place in the room most of the time.  The kitchen, for example, is mainly the place where you prepare meals, the living room is where you relax and entertain guests, the dining is where you eat, the bedroom is where you sleep and the study is where you work.  Then decide which kind of chi energy will best support these activities.  Ideally, each room should be located in the direction that will provide the most favourable type of chi energy for its main activity.

Different people look for different qualities in particular rooms, depending partly on the taste but also on the kinds of ambience they find most sympatric for the various activities in their lives.  So if a room's energy is to be helpful to you, it is important to take your own particular needs into account when you allocate rooms to particular locations. A living room in the north of your home, for example, will have a very different atmosphere from one in the south.  The former will be quiet and still, the latter warm and fiery.  Which of these qualities would be most helpful to you?  If you are living a stressful life working hard and far into the evening you may want a living room that is more tranquil than most, in which case a northern location would be more favourable.  If you often have visitors, you may want the more social energy, you would get from a living room in the south.

To take another example, if you generally sleep well but find you lack of energy during the day, it may be that your bedroom's Chi Energy is too quiet for you and that a more active environment would be preferable.  In this case a bedroom in the east or south-east of your home would better.  On the other hand, if you have plenty of energy in the day but are restless at night, you could benefit from a more peaceful room to sleep in and a northern bedroom would be more suitable.
