| Wedding Ceremony in Tokyo |
I had no time to think about it since the Father had already stopped talking and he was looking at me waiting for me to say 'I do'. So I just followed whatever I heard in the whisper, and said HAI CHIGAIMASU - at a very very very low voice... it was over, and nobody laughed at me. Thanks god. It was because they couldn't hear what I said at all. More interestingly, Toshi's family thought I was too touched that I wept before exchanging the vows, because they saw me kept shivering. In fact, that was not because I was touched - but I had a hard time controling my laugh - for being asked to swear for something which I didn't understand at all. |
| Our Tokyo wedding party was held on December 17 at Sunplaza in Nakano, exactly one month after the HK reception. My family including my parents, brother, grandparents, aunts and uncle flew from HK and Canada as well. The most impressive part of the venue was the church, followed by the wedding menu. The church ceremony was almost a dream came true. Toshi likes the flower shower the most though. |
| During the ceremony, an accident happened which I will never forget - when we exchanged marriage vows , I didn't know what to say simply because the Father kept talking in Japanese! However, according to my understanding, he was supposed to speak to me in English! I didn't know what to do and was terribly panic. Toshi seemed to get nervous too since he knew that I wouldn't understand what the Father said and I definitely wouldn't know how to say the Japanese of 'I do'. So he kept whispering next to me. Unfortunately I had no clue what he meant at all. All I heard was CHIGAIMASU which basically means NO in English. Are you sure? NO? |
After the ceremony, I realized that I was supposed to say CHIKAIMASU which means I SWEAR, but not CHIGAIMASU (which means NO I DON'T). In Japan, only very close relatives and close friends will be invited to the reception. The couple will then celebrate with other friends in the so-called Second Party, where the atmosphere is more relax and the price is also cheaper than the reception (but still more expensive than a normal banquet in HK). |
Our wedding day ended in a slightly special way. After the second party, we sent my family back to the hotel. But before Toshi and I went home for some rest, we went for the third party, just two of us - we felt hungry and drove to the famous ramen restaurant, standing style, with our wedding gown and tuxedo! Then, we went home with two truely satisfied stomachs! |
