George John Griffith     &     Mary K. Lichtenberger
George J.Griffith, year unknown
Mary Katherine, in 1912, age 26
Born: June 10, 1879 in Savanna, Ill.
Died: Oct. 7, 1953 in Lakewood, Ohio of a heart attack.
Trying to find where he's buried. His daughter Ann doesn't remember the exact location.

Parents:
William H.S. Griffith, and Mary Ann Clair. Raised in Savanna, he moved to Lakewood about 1926 with his wife.

Sibling(s): 6, all died young except for sister Caroline

Work: Clerk at Commercial State bank,
and Representitive for Diebold Corporation.

Schooling: University of Illinois

Marriage: Mary Katherine Lichtenberger.
Children: see Mary

Author's note: My Aunt Ann says her father was a very avid reader, had a ton of books. After his death, she's not quite sure what happened to most of them, but some were neglected in a basement, where they turned moldy and had to be thrown out. What a pity. She also remembers her Aunt Caroline as being a very nice and calm person, not easily upset.
Born: July 23 1886, in Illinois.
Died: Jan 7, 1935, in Lakewood, Ohio. She fell down her front steps and hit her head. I'm sure she sustained some type of brain injury. Laid in bed for about a year before she died. She was sent back to Savanna, with a service at St. John's Church there.

Parents:
William H. Lichtenberger, and
Mary Elizabeth Moran. Moved from Savanna Ill. to Ohio with her husband George.

Siblings: 8, 4 boys and 4 other girls.

Work: Wife and mother.

Education: Assuming she went to school in Illinois,no information on this.

Marriage: George John Griffith at age 26.
Children: 2-
Ann Griffith(Gebbie),
Mary Dorothy Griffith(Hill). She had
her children late in life.

Author's note: She was definitely a classic blend of German-Irish. The German is obvious in the face area, which has been handed down thru generations of women in my family. The Irish, well, my Great- Aunt Ann told me recently that her mother had dark red hair. :) Kinda makes me wish this picture was in color.

Mary Katherine, 1934, the year before she died. I think they were probably trying to get her out of the house, because she didn't feel well.
Believe this is a vacation home
   they had in Vermillion, Ohio.
The old St. John's Church in Savanna. Mary Katherine, or Marie as she was known, probably attended the old and new one, being a good Catholic girl.
