We arrived in Bangkok at the Bus terminal outside town, and then took the bike for a great cycling experience: 12 miles trough Bangkok's city traffic at rush hour! Nothing dangerous (because the traffic is quite slow), just a bit stressfull (especially if you're at the back of the tandem!). Racing the taxi-mopeds on the pavement ... brilliant!
That's all the cycling we did, though, as we spent the week-end as regular tourists with our own local private guide, my mum.
Using the boat as transport is a good alternative to Bangkok's busy streets. And with 90% tourists on board, they're just a preview of the tourism business in Bangkok.
There are temples everywhere in Bangkok. The biggest ones are mostly visited by tourists (left is Wat Poo, which encloses the famous hudge reclining Budha), and it is mainly the small ones which are actually used for praying, like this little temple near a busy traffic light.
The Grand Palace, just next to Wat Poo, is very impressive, from the Emerald Budha to the massive golden decorations ...
Is the business of tourism really respecting the real meaning of these temples? Oh, well ... let's just try to stay quiet then.
There isn't just temples to visit in Bangkok. China Town, flower markets, shoping, thaiboxing ... they're all worth it! (ask [email protected] for details about the night life and ping pong shows)
