Snowboarding in Morocco

Winter 1998/99

The three mad surfers: Matthieu, Fanch and Emile

The Atlas mountains are high enough for skiing in winter. There are a few "resorts" in the Middle Atlas (Ifrane, Mischliffen) and in the High Atlas (Oukaïmeden). Unfortunately, that year wasn't as white as expected and our friend were forced to look elsewhere for the ultimate slope. They eventually found it in the desert, on a dune in the Erg Cherbi near Merzouga.

Surfing on the Jebbel Toubkal (4167m) is possible at Oukaïmeden, when there's some snow!

If not, just look for the biggest dune in the desert...

Surfing on the burning sand: that's hot!

Even the kids have a go.

Lifts are free and keep your muscles warm!
