Digging Deeper
Note: In those days grief was often expressed openly with wailing and lamenting, sometimes accompanied by musical instruments.

This note probably is included to show that the girl was indeed dead. She wasn't asleep, in a coma ...etc.

  1. The story of the hemorrhaging woman is sandwiched within the account about Jairus's daughter. What similarities are there between these two accounts?
Both are seeking Jesus for healing. Both ignore the world and focus on Jesus. Both invovle Jesus' touch - the woman touched Jesus through his cloak & Jesus took the girl by the hand.

Being touched by a holy person, or touching a holy person or object was thought to have curative power. Was it Jesus' touch that healed the woman and the girl?
Jesus brought about the healings. Jesus used touch to do this, but the woman's and Jairus's faith was in Jesus.

  2. What did Jesus mean by saying the child was not dead, but asleep?
Jesus was simply saying that the girl's present condition of death was only temporary. He used the term "sleep" to indicate that her condition was not permanent. Read     Keep Your Fork Keep Your Fork

  3. In addition to the brevity of Matthew's account, what significant differences, if any, are there between this and the other gospel accounts? Is there anything important missing from Matthew's account?
Matthew's account is missing where some men come and tell Jairus his daughter is dead and not to trouble Jesus. Jesus replys "Don't be afraid; Just believe." This is important - Jesus wants us to block out the world and focus on him! Read     Focus on the Cross Focus on the Cross

  4. What comments or instructions did Jesus express after the healing?
He told them not to let anyone know about this.     (Mark 5:43)

As you do, keep your fork! Remember, the best is yet to come.

Ignore the world - focus on Jesus.
