FJORDS of NORWAY

The entrance to the Naeroyfjorden - awesome!
We didn't go down this fjord, but passed it while taking a 5 hour high speed catamaran ferry down the Songnefjorden from Aurland back to Bergen.
We took a day trip from Bergen to a small branch of the Hardangerfjorden called Eidfjorden.  We rode this ferry (above) after having traveled by train and bus (on some beautiful, winding roads!) to the town of Eidfjord where we spent a few hours hiking (after a picnic lunch of PB&Js) in some beautiful country that included wild raspberries (which Rachel is picking on the  right), viking burial grounds, and one awesome view after another!
Our last hike of the trip, in Aurland, took us to the rushing waterfall (right). It took us a while to find the trail, which seemed to go through private farmland, as there were only written instructions which were quite vague.
As we exited the fjords to the coast (for our return to Bergen) the mountains turned into rolling hills along the water.  It was still a beautiful area and reminded us of the coastline of the Pacific Northwest.
This picture (right) is not of any fjord, but a glacier!

We passed by this glacier in Finse while on the train from Oslo to Bergen.  There is a station there and so while passengers get off and on, the photographing tourists also hop off, take pictures, and hop back on before continuing the journey.  Another amazing site along this train journey (sorry, no photos) were the number of people on bicycles!  We've grown used to bikes in flat Holland, but didn't expect to see so many in this mountainous country!
