Bush STILL Sucks He will NEVER be the real president...
N.O.W. stands for National Organization of Women. N.O.W. is a liberal (not radical) feminist group which supports equal work/equal pay, lesbigay rights, and the right to choose. Particia Ireland is the current president.

The Feminist Majority is similar to N.O.W.. They have an excellent website with heaps of resources. Plus, you can join the Feminist Student Network.
Planned Parenthood is an organization that I have volunteered for in the past. Planned Parenthood has two main functions: education and health care. Many Planned Parenthood centers have trained educators on hand to answer any questions about sex, abortion, birth control, etc. Planned Parenthood also offers affordable health care to all women regardless of income. Some centers have abortion facilities, those that do not can give referrals.
Pro-Choice: Not an actual organization, but a link to my more indepth pro-choice page. Heaps of links along with an essay about why I am pro-choice.ChoiceUSA is a reproductive rights group which focuses on young people. I attended their reproductive rights institute one summer. Check out their webpage for ways to get involved.
American Association of University Women "promotes education equity for all women and girls." At a time when women and girls are still short changed in the educational system (at all levels), an organization like the AAUW is crucial.
Ms. Magazine was founded by Gloria Steinem as one of the first feminist magazines. It's bi-monthly and ad free. Ms. focuses on issues that pertain to women both in the US and international.
NARAL National Abortion Rights and Action League is one of the oldest organizations for choice. They have resources on pro-choice candidates for the upcoming elections as well as general information about choice and women's health.

Amnesty International is oen of the organizations that encompasses just about everything I believe in. AI is a nongovernmental human rights organization. They support women's rights, lesbigay rights, and children's rights. Amnesty is 100% opposed to the death penalty in all cases. This group applies the same human rights principals to all countries. It is unbiased. Today, Amnesty is one of the world's major human rights groups. It is headquartered in London, though there are branches and chapters all over the world.

National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty is the BIG national group to well...abolish the death penalty (duh). Their website has all of the latest execution alerts and updates. A great source for activism regarding upcoming executions. And since stays are issued, dates are changed, etc., this page is updated all the time. Check it out!
Campaign to End the Death Penalty is one of the grassroots organizations aimed at eliminating capital punishment. Period. No if's or exceptions. I agree. The death penalty is a gross misuse of justice and power. Only the poor get it ("If you don't have the capital, then you'll get the punishment") because they can't afford decent lawyers. The above mentioned link is VERY informative and has links to other great sites. Remember: "Why do we kill people to show that killing people is wrong?"
Canadian Coalition Against the Death Penalty is one of the best anti-DP organizations I have seen out there. CCADP humanizes America's condemned (all too often death row inmates are dehumanized) by giving hosting inmate webpages, and providing pen pal information (for some inmates, this is sadly their only link to the outside world). I am not saying that people on death row are all misunderstood and innocent. While I do believe that there are a lot of innocent men and women on death row, I think that people do change -- even those who kill. Murderers should not be released from jail. But they should not be legally killed either. We need to start reforming our whole system of corrections to rehabilitate inmates!
Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is a "gay/straight group" that works to put an end to hate crimes committed against gays and lesbians, and for gay and lesbian rights. One of the best gay rights groups out there, because PFLAG is inclusive and it is not a big corporate monster.
plants and animals
Plant a Tree Online. That's right! Just one click helps to plant a brand new tree! Ahhh...I love trees!
Save a Stray is like Plant a Tree Online, except that each click goes to help save stray animals. I am such an animal freak...Honor the Earth is an environmental group that raises funds and support (through donations, benefit concerts, etc.) on issues of native land. from the Indigo Girls Website: Amy Ray on Honor The Earth: "Honor The Earth is not just another environmental cause. The basic issues of human rights, justice and our own survival are at stake."
World Wildlife Fund protects endangered species. One of the big international animal rights groups, this is a link to WWF's USA site.
Greenpeace is another big environmental group. They focus on protecting endangered forests, saving the whales, nuclear disarmerment, etc. Their webpage is quite informative and covers a vast number of issues that effect our planet.
PETA is a bit radical, I know. But I am a vegetarian. And I think that their slaughterhouse videos really expose a disgusting truth. I am not saying that everyone should be vegetarian, it is a personal choice. But it is one of the best choices I made.

Refuse and Resist was founded to fight the Christian right, racism, homophobia, sexism, etc. In their 1987 founding statement, Refuse and Resist states: "The transformation now taking place is not some periodic swing of the pendulum from 'left' to 'right'... there must be massive resistance." They also work against the death penalty, abuses by police, and abuses on immigrants.
