KAREN : IN MY OPINION |
Can you recall the first time you saw the Miss Universe Competition?
The first time I really watched the competi-tion was in 1994 when the pageant was held in the Philippines and Sushmita Sen won that contest! It was the first time I watched it because it was in the Philippines and it was a popular thing then. |

Tell us about your national costume.
My national costume was designed by Alfredo Barazza and it is absolutely the most beautiful dress I have ever seen. It is called the 'Manton de Manila' and during the Spanish Era most people used this real-ly big silk shawl with fringes at the ends with a really big skirt and that's what my costume is gonna be. It is handpainted and little brilliant crystals and gems were stuck to the shawl by hand. I saw how it was done in three days. It is great, it is beautiful! |

What country would you live in?
I don't know whether I can live anywhere else! I just love the Philippines so much. I have grown up there, I was born there and I think I am going to die there! If you'd ask me what country I would like to visit, I |

would like to visit Egypt because of it's an-cient history, there's just so much history there; like the pyramids and I would love to go through the Nile, something I've always wanted to do. I've heard so many stories from my friends who went there.
Can you sing a few bars of your national anthem?
Okay... "Bayang magiliw, perlas ng silang-anan, alab ng puso sa dibdib mo'y buhay.." Okay, is that fine?
What is the craziest thing that you have done?
There was this one time that I was able to put my fist in my mouth!
What do you eat for breakfast?
Always rice and whatever we have at home |
like corn beef, hotdog or even chicken. I always eat rice, rice for breakfast, rice for lunch, rice for dinner and sometimes even for snacks!
What is your nickname and how did you get it?
Freinds just call me Karen but some friends, really few friends call me 'Ka', you know just to shorten Karen, that's it! |
