Yanaguwa Nu Kon Gyaku
This is a very interesting and important bo kata. To start with it look at what the name implies. Gyaku means "reverse". This kata is predominantly preformed with left handed techniques. The majority of kata not only weapons kata are preformed with predominantly right handed techniques. Yanaguwa Nu Kon Gyaku teaches our students how to fight with the left side, and how to perform different left handed techniques. It is believed that this kata was formed by Master Chinen of Yamane-Ryu. After a lot of training he noticed that his students would only fight with the right side. They had mastered many of his techniques but he noticed that they had a lot of weakness on the left side. To help solve this problem Master Chinen formulated the Yanaguwa Nu Kon Gyaku kata, to teach his students how to fight on the left side.
