Bo Sai Kumite
Bo Sai Kumite is one of the traditional kata of Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu. This kata teaches how to defend against a bo staff, when the defender has a pair of sai. It teaches students how to properly block the bo staff with sai, which can also be translated into how to effectively block against hand techniques or sword techniques. The sai must be kept as tight to the forearm as it can. This will help to stop the impact and reduce the risk of injury to the defender. The aggressor attacks with the bo staff, and the defender defends with the sai. Once again the aggressor is defeated and the defender wins the fight. This kata is important to the progression of students of kobudo. This kata helps with the time of strikes and the ability to see what the opponent is going to attack with. The defender learns to disarm the bo wielding attacker, and then take him to the ground to finish the fight.
